Just in time for #FossilsFriday but here are a few photos from my trip to the LWL Museum of Natural History in Münster! I was mainly visiting for their Lepidodendron canopy specimen!!!
It's a wonderful museum!

A model of a lepidodendron tree with the fossil of the branch mounted into the wall.A GIANT adorable looking ammonite model with a massive eye and short tentacles.A close up of a Wielandiella model, with the cone and leaves visible. Two sparrows sat in the mouth of a T. rex skull.

I haven't posted anything for a while, so here's some new #paleoart for #FossilFriday: Cetiosaurus in a Middle Jurassic landscape. I've had to compose and execute this in just two days, so hopefully it looks OK! (All data for the plant recons comes from @palaeojules.bsky.social.)
#dinosaur #sciart

A long-necked dinosaur walks along a shallow river surrounded by various Jurassic trees, ferns and shrubs. A small predatory dinosaur watches from the nearest riverbank.

I also had the opportunity to co-lead the first symposium on Plant Paleoart together with @palaeojules.bsky.social! It was extremely successful, with speakers coming from different career stages and paths and bringing interesting perspectives. Looking forward to repeating the experience at IOPC!

Some interesting invert photos from my first few days in Greece!
A very polite jumping spider.
A bug (nymph?) Drinking sap from a Magnolia.
And two slugs mating!

Hot Take for #FossilFriday - the quest to make paleontology "useful" and "relevant" and "high impact" has backfired spectacularly. A hypothetical "Big Data Approaches to Deep Time Ecosystem Services" almost always end up largely disconnected from actual fossils. (thread) <1/n>

The moon was super bright tonight. So you know what that means... #MoonPics!!!
Mounted my camera and got a nice pic of it (best pic I've ever taken of it, at least). The first image had some poat production light balance altering, second is the raw photo, and the other two are the setup. #moonphoto

Clear photo of the moon showing all the craters and surface details. The same image but lighter - the raw photo. The camera mounted, pointing up and out of my window.Pic of the camera screen with a zoomed in pic of the moon on it.

In preparation for @lapworthmuseum.bsky.social's Family Fun Day next week, I've made a large poster of Middle Jurassic Chinese plants for an activity I'm running. But what will I be doing with it? Perhaps it involves a few hidden beasties.

A photo art composite landscape of a jurassic forest, with a real photo background of a tree base and various jurassic plan drawings extending in from the edges of the image.

I have another #paleobotany restoration guide for this #FossilFriday. This time, it's Kimuriella densifolia, a whole plant bennettitalean from the Late #Jurassic of Japan.
This plant is composed of three organ taxa: Williamsonia, Zamites, and Weltrichia.
#paleoart #sciart #botany

A portrait page with a full restored branch onto the left. It has 6 palm like leaves at the end of one branch, hiding a cone, with a second mature cone below it. On the top right is a male floral organ, which is start shaped, and in the bottom right is a cut-way of the female cone showing its development.

I, too, would like to have a go at the new Spinosaurus soon, but in the meantime:
Here's a slide from my recent talk, which covers the DOs and DON'Ts of restoring ginkgoes within palaeoart!
Enjoy! #Ginkgo #FossilFriday #paleobotany #paleoart #SciComm

A landscape page with a pale green background and two illustrations of Ginkgo on it. On the left is an inaccurate one with leaves coming directly from a branch. On the right is an accurate one with clusters extending from short shoots.

So, after teasing us with the press release for the last few hours, the new 'Nanotyrannus is valid, like pretty convincingly this time' paper is Finally online!!!
