As I've been saying for years Popper's Paradox of Tolerance is undefeated.

I wonder what would have happened if folks had taken seriously the rise in political violence and threats against women, trans, Black, and antifascist organizers and figures back when we were all getting swatted and sent photoshops of ourselves beheaded

A massive, and massively underrated, threat to a functioning democracy. (gift link) www.nytimes.com/2026/10/11/u...

We've added three more Your Own Private Bookstore events in November! A YOPB gets you and few friends and family the store to yourself for an hour after we close. It's a great party. Also, a great way to get a ton of holiday shopping done. Available dates here: portersquarebooks.com/events/tags/...

I know. I'd actually heard about this earlier from folks who were at the workshop in question. Puts the fact thar Europa still doesn't put translators on the cover in a somewhat troubling context

@joshthelibromancer.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 2:31 PM

I was wondering about that! I feel like they only started advertising for it a few months ago

If I were a buyer at a bookstore (to be very clear, I'm not) I would not stock books translated by AI & I'd probably tell my sales rep that.

@joshthelibromancer.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 9:29 PM

Also wondering how many of the people deciding to use AI ever designed a cover, or wrote copy, or pitched a review or an event to a bookstore, or read a fucking book

hello, I am doing some research and would like to tap into the collective brains of BSKY: 1. can you share some genre or literary fiction magazines that have closed and the archive is NO LONGER ONLINE 2. the same but the archives remain online FOR NOW i would also appreciate RTs for awareness πŸ’€

Publishers using AI is not metaphorically paying the burgular for the shit they stole from you

There is something a bit magical about a book recommendation, right? You chat with a bookseller for a minute & get back a stack of books each perfect in their own way for who you are right now. If you can't visit us in person, order a little of that magic in with a Blind Date with a Book #BookSky

Apologies to @literaryhub.bsky.social & @kristenarnett.bsky.social but I'm just seeing this now: Yes, not picking up orders inconveniences bookstores. Old orders take up always limited shelf space & require tending. Also, if you know it's going to be a bit, let the store know so they don't bug you!

As #BannedBooksWeek starts winding down, here are two things you can do...well...kinda forever to help defend books, reading, and literary culture....

People in California who are facing a terrible ICE surge: remember that if you need whistles, we are still sending them out for free.

In fact, we just passed 1.7 million whistles sent out.

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.

I know I am about as biased as possible on this but go to an indie bookstore. An indie bookstore's vibes are the opposite of...all of this. You'll be surrounded by memories, stories, brave visions of the future that don't ignore our barbarous present. Your brain can be quiet AND full. Seriously.
