"Because Trump" or the more euphemistic "because the world has changed" is the favourite thought-terminating cliché of Carney supporters. Offer any evidence-based criticism of any Carney policy & you will hear that these unusually dangerous times require it. But he's making us *more* vulnerable. 🧵1/

An image of deplorable Canadian prime minister Mark Carney, with disheartening but all-too-sadly-true text:

Mark Carney isn't protecting Canada from Donald Trump. He's making us more vulnerable to Trump. His policies increasingly emulate Trump's.

Costs of further fossil fuel expansion: civilization collapse agricultural collapse economic collapse "Benefits" of further fossil fuel expansion: very temporarily increasing short term profits for primarily foreign fossil fuel shareholders on the way to causing the death of billions Tough call.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 19, 2026, 12:28 AM

You're "not saying" that we should ignore the science, you're merely repeatedly demanding that we should be basing our national policies on ignoring the science and doing the exact opposite of what the evidence shows us about both the ecosystem and the economy. Got it. Sad lack of virtue signal.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 19, 2026, 12:26 AM

You cannot combine goals of expanding the fossil fuel industry during the climate crisis with science that is very clear it's utterly catastrophic to do so. The "best decision we can make" is not climate arson. Just as you can't combine goals of being healthy with poisoning your water supply,

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 19, 2026, 12:24 AM

Actually, every time you pretend that there's a wise "balance" in policy that turns the globe into an unliveable hellscape, you are declaring yourself to be a science denier. If you don't want to be called a science denier, it's really simple: stop denying the science. It's that easy.

Global Commission on Climate and the Economy: the clean energy transition represents an extra $26 Trillion in new economic opportunities that we'd be foolish to leave on the table.

Kevvy: More fossil fuels are the way to improve the economy! Screw those growth industries!

Bank of Canada: "Climate change threatens not only our economy, but the entire financial system."

Kevvy: Endangering the entire global economy is a necessary sacrifice to make to strengthen the economy!

Like saying that setting yourself on fire improves your health.

*Before* Carney's expansion plans, Canada's current level of dependence on fossil fuels already endangers 20% of all national GDP and 8% of Canada's employment by 2030.

Kevvy: No no no, ignore all of the experts & research. I demand we assume the opposite is true!

The UK College of Actuaries warns that warming will obliterate a full 50% of global GDP possibly as early as 2050 & no later than 2070.

Kevvy: Ignore those experts, too. We have to cut GDP in half to improve the economy, darn it!

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 19, 2026, 12:16 AM

World Bank: climate impacts are trending to cause $158 Trillion in economic losses & cause 1.3 billion deaths by 2050. Carney's determined to race us there even faster with massive fossil fuel expansion.

Kevvy: Ignore those experts! Those losses will make us wealthier!

IISD study: the best way to economically leverage Canada’s oil and gas industry is to limit production expansion while investing remaining resource revenues in booming clean energy sectors rather than creating expensive new stranded assets.

Kevvy: Ignore those experts!

Science: The collapse of all of human civilization is the most likely current climate outcome

Kevvy's sociopathic partisanship: Scientists can't make decisions about whether or not it's a good idea to completely destroy all of human civilization!

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 19, 2026, 12:12 AM

Peer reviewed research: climate impacts are aiming us towards synchronized collapse of global agricultural yields, devastating humanity's entire food suppply.

Kevvy the science denier: There's a "right balance" to be struck with deliberately starving billions.

Credible scientific inquiry expands the edifice of scientific understanding ever further, building upon the findings that have been firmly established with greater nuance and additional well defined complexity. Kevvy & his ilk insist we tear down the foundations over and over again instead.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 19, 2026, 12:07 AM

Every science-rejecting ideologue pretends that science is about rejecting everything from gravity to the link between cigarettes & lunfg cancer over and over again despite a preponderance of evidence in hopes of getting different answers from established science. It isn't.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 19, 2026, 12:02 AM

It's not "cult members" who respond rationally to five sigma level scientific evidence - the very best that exists on any topic - presented by the largest collective scientific effort in history. Cult membership is solely for deliberate rejection of evidence of the sort you're demonstrating.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 19, 2026, 12:00 AM

International Energy Agency: by the time new Canadian LNG projects can come online there will be a 65 million cubic metro glut of oversupply in a collapsing market Kevvy: But producing unwanted oversupply by devastating our ecosystem can only strengthen our economy! Not remotely credible, FFS.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 18, 2026, 11:57 PM

There is no "right balance" of ecocide to be struck, just as there's no "right balance" of whether or not to feed your family botulinum toxins. No "reasonable & informed" person seeks to destabilize ecosystem services vital to our basic survival. Collective suicide has zero to do with reasonable.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 18, 2026, 11:54 PM

When new evidence provides an update to our scientific understanding, malicious disinformers pretend that this is "proof that the science was wrong" instead of clear evidence that the science which was already correct has continued to improve and respond appropriately to the newest evidence.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 18, 2026, 11:52 PM

Indeed, the IPCC removed SSP 8.5 from future assessments, which is not in any way "walking back" any previous finding, but merely recognizing evidence that nations other than Canada & the US are successfully taking the issue more seriously & have changed our collective trajectory as a result.

@sustainablesong.bsky.socialOct 18, 2026, 11:49 PM

Standard troll behaviour: Kevvy rejects every piece of cited evidence he dislikes while simultaneously insisting that he is the only arbiter of what counts as evidence or does not. 100% an indicator of someone wholly uninterested in evidence based discussion while spreading disinformation.
