Great to see so many people this week out supporting Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid — an organization that provides legal services to Minnesotans in need. Thank you to keynote speaker Neal Katyal, whose commitment to the rule of law inspires lawyers across the country.

Katyal: "I was able to go to court - the son of immigrants-- & say on behalf of small businesses, 'Hey, this president is acting illegally.' I was able to present my case, have them ask really hard questions, & at the end of it they voted & we won. That is something extraordinary about this country"

Neal Katyal son of immigrants went to SCOTUS won & overturned tariffs, Alysa Liu, daughter of an immigrant, went Olympics & won gold. Winners representing a fraction of the myriad contributions to American society made every damn day by immigrants. Diversity is our strength USA.

Neal, this #CupOfJoe is for you, with a latte thanks.

This case has always been about the presidency, not any one president. It has always been about separation of powers, and not the politics of the moment. I'm gratified to see our Supreme Court, which has been the bedrock of our government for 250 years, protect our most fundamental values.

Finally, I lack the words to properly thank my brilliant Milbank team, especially Colleen Roh Sinzdak and Sami Ilagan, who worked with me day and night for many months to craft the winning argument.

I'm also grateful to the five small business owners who stood up against these unjust, unconstitutional taxes. By taking a stand, they have delivered crucial relief to tens of thousands of businesses and millions of consumers across the country.

I’m grateful for the leadership of the Liberty Justice Center, and in particular for the brilliant advocacy by its chair, Sara Albrecht, who led the fight when others wouldn’t and was dauntless in its defense of our constitutional order.

Earlier today, Neal Katyal argued against the government before the U.S. Court of Appeals challenging Donald Trump's tariff power. He compares the government's arguments to a "shell game."

I am utterly baffled by the highlighted part, which isn't even a quote from the Supreme Court's order. What are they doing?!

Defendants’ Response to Interrogatory No. 1: Defendants object to
Interrogatory No. 1 as based on the false premise that the United States can or has
been ordered to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador. See
Abrego Garcia, 604 U.S.—, slip op. at 2 (holding Defendants should “take all available
steps to facilitate the return of Abrego Garcia to the United State”) (emphasis added).
Defendants further object to Interrogatory No. 1 as calling for information that is
protected by the attorney-client privilege, the deliberative process privilege, the state
secrets privilege, and the governmental privilege. Defendants incorporate their
objections to definitions and objections to instructions.

This is quite incredible. The US Justice Dept, under Trump, is defending its birthright citizenship Order by arguing that immigrant children covered by the Order cannot be citizens because... the children of Native Americans aren't US citizens.
