You can see the uptick in uses of "Christian nationalism" in the 1930s/40s on Google ngram, then a decline in the 1950s, a steady rise in the 1980s, before an explosion in the 2010s.

The Religious Right is desperate these days to pretend that "Christian Nationalism" is (1) a recently-invented term and (2) a pejorative invented by their enemies, but neither of those claims is remotely true. Here's a short thread, but I'm sure other historians will have examples too.

Released as a single 35 years ago to this very day, R.E.M.’s Shiny Happy People. I was nine when it was released. If you’d told me then that 30+ years later I’d spend a couple of hours designing a parody of The Shining poster, I’d probably tell me to grow up. Kids can be so ruddy perceptive.
