But any gratification without friction dies on the vine immediately. Friction is learning. Friction is discovery. It's the reason we feel gratification that lasts. The journey, not the destination.

They **want** the artistic experience. But they **don't want** to be vulnerable, bad at anything, learn from anyone, embarrassed, specific, weird, frustrated, hopeful. They want pure gratification.

This cultish mindset that keeps cropping up around crypto, NFTs, and now AI is, in the light of day, born from a small clutch of grasping, cloying, frightened people seeking meaning without friction.

When you make art you're making an infinite number of conscious and unconscious choices that reciprocally change YOU. Every time you sit down to it, you're different than the last time you touched it. It'll never be exactly what you planned, and you'll never be quite who you were when you started.

My work changes when I mess up but lean into it. When I remember something or get a song in my head and that unpredictable feeling changes my approach. Every ephemeral creative moment is a choice & an accident. Art's a process not a product. It actually CAN'T mimic the process.

I know I've said this a thousand times, but it lives **deep** in my soul.

I hate the 'if AI could perfectly mimic your art, you'd let it' argument more than ANY other pro AI argument. It's so backwards about what art even is.

This feels like the time I sold all my Monopoly deeds to other players. Not for money, just on the promise they wouldn't charge me if I landed on one of their properties. I skated around the board nearly broke for an hour.
