Hold the companies liable for the way their tools function or misfunction. These tools do not have agency. They are not living beings. They are not conscious. They are products or models or tools or bots or whatever. And their creators are putting dangerously flawed products on the market.
This is what the companies want because it indemnifies them for their products, like gun manufacturers except the guns aim and shoot themselves. It would be difficult to define and to enforce — how would you hold an AI liable (does it get its day in court?) or how would you fine it or punish it?
We don’t have to call AI agents “agents,” which is what AI companies decided to name them and is conveniently suggestive of agency, which they do not have
In a setback for Dunning Kruger chartboys, a Federal Reserve study reveals that from 2022 to 2025, Americans 75+ saw their wealth jump 37%; those under 35 lost 23%. The poorest 40% of Americans also lost out.
“She doesn’t have any requisite experience or policy background, you jerks”
Hope I’m wrong for her sake, but she is going to get normal questions on complicated topics she knows very little about, and if she has a freak-out we’re going to hear “give the poor woman a break you vipers she’s a mother who is just learning this stuff”
Not too hard to trace out this story

The Guardian, four days ago:
“Fuel is being shipped from South Korea to Russia via sanctioned [UK, EU] tankers as Moscow scrambles for supplies amid the war in Ukraine, a move one expert said ‘undermines’ Seoul’s public backing for Kyiv.”

Isn’t that literally because of global warming
Also some pretty interesting parallels between Trump’s AI craziness and Trump’s COVID craziness
Trump is almost inexplicably bullish on AI—fascistic about it, and his base hates it—to a point where it seems pretty clear (to me at least) that it isn’t just about trying to make another billion. Been trying to figure it out, and I’m sure it’s not just one thing, but elections could explain it
This is the first time my dumb brain put “AI” and “election” together
Just two days before launching an effort to slash red tape for commercial space transportation, President Trump last month purchased up to $5 million of bonds issued by SpaceX, a major federal contractor run by Elon Musk, according to ethics filings made public on Thursday. https://cnn.it/4rRrZU0
I’m not sure “acting on their own” describes the issue here. It elides responsibility. “Deficiently programmed” or something
So many things wrong with this "deal," but also: it's not a "massive" amount. If we actually receive 1,800,000 tons of diesel from Russia, that's equivalent to: * 3.3 days of US consumption, or * 10 days of US *exports*. It's a drop in the bucket. We send more than that overseas every two weeks.
Some stellar and typically thorough reporting from my mentor @mepfuller.bsky.social
