NONE of the 31 European airports we studied gives residents a full 8 hours of respite from aircraft noise at night 😴 ✈️
Our new report for @uecna.bsky.social found patchy, inconsistent night flight reporting that falls short of WHO recommendations for public health 1/2

You might have seen that LBA's boss has accused us of 'exaggerating' the increase in night flights that would be allowed if their planning application is approved. Here's our one minute response. Please share! youtube.com/shorts/cI1Nr.... Object by 15 October: www.galba.uk/our-campaign...
‘A "fairer" system of taxation on private jets could raise up to £2.7 billion a year, which could help fund essential public services such as the NHS, schools, or investment in warm homes and lower energy bills,’ writes @brendanmontague.bsky.social for The Ecologist.

Is Jet Zero failing? 🛫 The Jet Zero Strategy was meant to keep aviation within our carbon budgets. It's falling short, which means the benchmark that Heathrow expansion could be judged against isn't good enough. Watch @chadceleste.bsky.social explain why 👇
This concerning possibility was investigated by Josh Gabbatiss at Carbon Brief - worth a read.
bsky.app/profile/carb...
Why should aviation get a bigger share of the carbon budget? Other sectors are decarbonising, but aviation is projected to become the UK’s largest emitting sector by 2040. Is this fair?
🚨🗣️ Final call! Protect communities from more noise and air pollution, and help keep aviation's emissions within safe limits. Say no to Heathrow 3rd Runway. Drop by booth G5 at the Labour Party Conference to discuss the issue with AEF’s @chadceleste.bsky.social and Bertie Lloyd.

AEF would push for both the EU and the UK to move away from unreliable offsets: ETS is a more robust scheme, but CORSIA has a future if it delivers significantly more ambition, and geological carbon removals. 3/4
What’s the alternative? The EU’s currently considering extending the scope of its emissions trading scheme (ETS), which, if expanded, would reduce reliance on CORSIA offsets. 2/4
Do carbon offsets work?
New report for the European Commission estimates that over 60% of carbon offsets eligible for use under ICAO offsetting scheme for international aviation, CORSIA, have a very high likelihood of not reducing emissions. 1/4

"You can’t disguise the reality that the sector is failing to make a significant dent in its emissions which are estimated to be higher in 2050 than they are today, even without a third runway," said Tim Johnson, AEF's Director.

NEW ADVICE from the Climate Change Committee has told the Government that it can’t go ahead with an expansion with Heathrow and expect to meet the UK’s legally binding climate commitments on the basis that aviation is simply decarbonising too slowly.
