Public executions are not “justice”. They are state-sanctioned violence turned into spectacle. A society’s humanity is measured not by how brutally it punishes, but by how firmly it protects human dignity and due process. We must never confuse vengeance with justice.
Volunteerism is down across all sectors. Burnout is high, and folks have less time, as they are taking on more paid roles in order to cover bills. Now, more than ever, we need to be sharing the load and keeping expectations reasonable for volunteers. Comparisons often cause more harm than good.
Right?!? They are stretched between multiple classrooms, trying to provide 1:1 for 6-8 highly vulnerable children with complex needs at a time. They are frequently injured on the job and face higher levels of workplace injury (as per WSIB data) than prison guards and police officers.
Educational Assistants who are only working at this one job are most often married to someone with a larger income. No job should ever require that you “marry rich”, or even that you have a partner at all. And yet this is the reality for many woman-dominated professions.
Reminder to volunteers who are in charge of Comms: Do not compare yourself to people doing Comms as a full time job. Some orgs have multiple full-time people doing what you are attempting to do on your weekends. Be gentle with yourself. Thank you for volunteering.

Allow me to interrupt your doom-scrolling with some #BloomScrolling
Language equals access to learning.
Toronto is putting on a “Kids Vote Weekend” in October, where kids will go to polling locations and vote for one of five candidates running to be Tree of the Year.
I will be cancelling all my coverage of the mayoral race and focusing exclusively on this contest.

Reminds me of the time a bunch of internet trolls were calling me a “clown” and I was like YES, I DID take a clowning course as part of my joint honours Theatre and Film and History B.A., and it is such a high honour to play the Clown! ❤️🤡❤️
People will hate you if you say something. People will hate you if you don’t. So say the things you know about and believe in with all of your heart, and take some time to learn about and reflect on the things you do not yet understand. It’s honestly okay to be hated.
Here’s my overarching theory on Multilingual Language Learner success in K-12 schools. When we ensure that these 3 things are in place (access, affirmation, and acceleration), multilingual language learners can and do thrive in our classrooms.

Same in Alberta. Shout out to all teachers, many of us know how govt’s are making a complex job even more difficult. Thank you for all you do.
Indeed. It’s an impossible ask.
Wow. Impossible situation.
To all educators who are struggling to fit in all of the latest initiatives and literacy data collection and safe schools incident reporting and behaviour logs and mental health ratings scales and everything else on top of actually planning, teaching, and assessing… I see you.
When work expectations do not match the time, training, and resources given to meet those expectations, it is not a personal failure. It is a systemic failure. #OntEd is experiencing a massive systemic failure that has gotten exponentially worse since 2018.
I wish someone had told me this truth when I was starting out. I thought there was something wrong with me. I didn’t realize how much of my own time and money I was expected to give up just to keep the lights on in public education. I didn’t know that I was being set up to fail.
