Happy #TravelTuesday! During last month's vacation in #Kyrgyzstan, Helen and I did an eight-day trek in the Alay Mountains which are incredible. Part 1 of that trek covering the first four days is now up on my blog. Stay tuned for Part 2. #travel www.twowheeledpolitics.ca/2026/08/hiki...
Got one more company - Forest Contractors - which we may want to keep a close eye on whose trucks were spotted on Bloor per Janet Joy's video. Had to redo the quote post to clarify they may be working on another project at 3391 Bloor W, but we need to make sure. #BikeTO #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero
Great coverage of this week's Bloor bike lane removal resistance by @desmondcole.bsky.social and the broader far-right playbook. The "war on fossil capital" framing is good and one that can apply to those walking, biking, and taking transit alike. #BikeTO #WalkTO #TTC #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero
Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes isn’t about traffic—it’s part of a global right-wing backlash to vilify urban residents and defend fossil fuel interests. @breachmedia.ca dove into the politics of cycling, and debunked some myths along the way www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoCz...
Done! Also added CT's petition to my blog post which also called out the involvement of the two companies.
Verdi Alliance and ATS Traffic are actively dismantling the Bloor Street West protected bike lanes in Etobicoke contrary to the will of Toronto City Council.
Neither of these companies is based in Toronto. Tell them to keep their workers home:
And MPP Alexa Gilmour.
Given today's unacceptable arrest of Paralympian Aly Van Wyck-Smart while protesting the Bloor bike lane removals this afternoon, we need to flood Doug Ford's phone at (647) 612-3673 to voice our disapproval! #shame #BikeTO #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero
It is illegal. HTA 103 (1) Every commercial motor vehicle shall have attached to or painted on both sides of the vehicle in a clearly visible position a sign showing the name of the owner.
The Toronto Police arrested Aly Van Wyck-Smart, a Paralympian with cerebral palsy who was protecting part of the bike lane from removal. On the bright side, the construction workers put the bollards back and said we'd won for the day.
It should be illegal for contractors such as Verdi Alliance Civil & their subcontractors to be able to cover up their logos while working to remove the Bloor bike lanes! A cowardly and futile act given Toronto's road closure map already showed contractors' names. #shame #BikeTO #TOpoli #VisionZero
They still can't hide from the City of Toronto's road restrictions map. 😉 www.toronto.ca/services-pay...
View of Doug Ford's future commute to work along Bloor St. in Etobicoke, behind the cyclists he hates rather than beside them.
We're dealing with two different governments here. The local one (Toronto) approved the Bloor bike lanes, but it's the provincial government (Ontario) that chose to overrule Toronto by ripping them out. Sadly in Canada, our cities are considered to be "creatures of the provinces".
It's not Toronto that hates bikes. It's our car-brained Premier of Ontario and his conservative government.
Not a good excuse. The Mayor and Council can't direct day to day police operations per the Police Services Act, while we can't afford to let Ass Assford become Mayor who would certainly be way worse than Olivia Chow.
Well that's unfortunate, though I find their website works fine for me.
Thanks! I put up my take on Day 1 (and recap of Day 2) this morning. As for where to find out about when these actions are happening, I strongly recommend keeping tabs on /r/TorontoBiking on Reddit. www.reddit.com/r/torontobik...
New blog post recapping my afternoon at the Bloor bike lane removal protest.
