ooooh this is a useful tip, thanks — ive been meaning to look into chisels for trimming for a while but it's always lowkey scared me in a way that craft knives don't 😭 next time im in town ill have to pick one up!! (im v attached to trimming by hand generally, but id also love it to be less faffy ☠️)

i fudge the shit out of my spine rounding coz i don't have the right sort of press to properly work the shoulders lmao 😭 but it does sorta works okay for things that are 250 ish pages and up? fast car, bgr and unauthorized biography all came out okay on the rounding!! (pictured: fast car)

and tbh the last half centimetre of the block is always rough and wonky as shit because every wobble in the line you're cutting compounds as you go (because u end up using the cut edge as a guide not the ruler), but usually it's minimal enough to be fixed by a violent attack of sandpaper 🙏

craft knife and a ruler babe 😭 if the block is thicker than the length of the blade it's impossible to get a clean cut (bc the plastic sheath bit hits the top of the book) so u have to open the block up or go in at an angle, and it inevitably turns into a total dogshit mess ☠️
