In our course and book _Calling Bullshit_, we posit that If something seems too good, or too bad, to be true, it probably is. Now as a college professor I'm pretty confident that overreliance can AI can harm our thinking ability, but just ten minutes of use? Let's dig into this this study a bit.

True. Not necessarily.

I'm frankly shocked and pleasantly surprised that the NYT was able to put together a cogent and reasonable argument around AI regulation and liability.

I really enjoyed the clarity of his remarks in this article. Very refreshing.

openai, anthropic, and google are using their most powerful tools to attack public infrastructure

@geomblog.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 8:22 AM

I think that's also true in the larger scheme of things. it's a stopgap but long run creates more problems. not to mention a vastly increased author pool doesn't necessarily imply a vastly increased qualified reviewer pool.

I agree with your point on the merits. The problem that @stein.ke raises though has its own cascading effect. More people decline reviewing, fewer reviewers, more motivation to use AI in reviews, and so on.

Posting my preliminary proof of P vs NP scribbled on a soiled napkin, attached via cocktail spear to a receipt with the current date and time. Just in case I get scooped by OpenAI.

Anthropic is out with new nonsense about Claude (or the collection of models called Claude) deserving moral consideration and/or be able to feel distress, so my inbox is filling up with journos asking me to comment. I've also got a day job, so here is a brief set of public comments on this: >>

So let me know if you want to come to a virtual talk next wk on “Reimagining Leadership.“ Time tbd. The focus is on cultivating critical, creative, and caring capacities in medicine, but I think it applies beyond that. I’m pretty sure we can do this without any leaders.

Ruha’s title slide for “Reimagining Leadership” with a quote by Saidiya Hartman: “Care is the antidote to violence.”

I lied slightly. You also need a floor function to extract the answer after you have cheated by using constant time arbitrary long arithmetic ops

Reupping as the US wakes up :). Come for the takes on chatbot personality, but stay for a deeper meditation on accessibility and choice.
