Cocteau Twins?

(It's obviously absurd that former ICC judge Navi Pillay won the Nobel Peace Prize, and Trump didn't. She's never even dropped a bomb on a girls' school.)

Just how much longer will UK and Europe kick the can down the road over digital sovereignty, after a ban on US entities making transactions with the International Criminal Court?

Trump's suit appears to be part of Jos. A. Bank's Traveler line. The suit is listed as having been made abroad using a wool-polyester-spandex blend. The company describes it as having the "ultimate stretch" and was designed to minimize body odor.

Trump wearing a blue suit on stage. He is flashing his jacket open, such that you can see the interior labels. One label says Jos. A. Bank. A product shot from Jos. A. Bank's website. This is from the Traveler line. It appears to match the label in Trump's suit. A photo from the product page touts that the suit is made from a new "fabric technology" that has "ultimate stretch performance" and "anti-microbial/ reduce moisture and odor" qualities. There is a photo of a man wearing the suit. From the product page: "Product Details & Care

The Flydubai co-pilot who tried to hijack a flight to Tel Aviv is a former cryptocurrency speculator who four years ago was living with his parents and calling women “rotten meat”... Hammami peppered his diatribes with the language of the manosphere. www.ft.com/content/a92b...

Some of you have been asking whether or not Vivaldi is affected by Chrome’s #AI API, which some websites are using for tracking purposes. The answer is straight-forward: no. ✌️

We disable all the Gemini-related code bundled in Chromium, effectively preventing websites from using this API in Vivaldi.

Just 2 hours until I get home. I'd love to tell you what was said, but Chatham House Rules. I think we have it our best shot; I don't think Big Tech Gatekeeper made their case convincingly. It's all EU politics now, which is outside my influence (or interest, tbh).

@brucel.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 7:10 AM

Your valiant boy about to head into the European commission to meet a Big Tech Gatekeeper about the insane request by European commie users to run software they choose on devices they own.

If I don't keep my car roadworthy and crash into yours, it hasn't gone "rogue", it's my negligence and I'm responsible. If my dog attacks you, I am liable. There are no rogue AIs, just negligent AI companies. Prosecute them.

It would be helpful if you would indicate whether the capybara is on the left or the right. Also, happy birthday.

@brucel.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 7:40 AM

Completely agree. I won't spend my hard-earned dosh on an iThing for just this reason.

@brucel.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 6:03 AM

It doesn't need to be this way, of course. It's possible to imagine a world in which someone with hundreds of dollars to spend on a device is treated as adult enough to run the software they choose on it. Crazy, I know.

"CSS has shortcomings". What is it that can't be achieved in CSS?

@brucel.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 6:42 PM

Isn't the trade off "this is slower for the user" vs "this is more convenient for me"? Or is there another tradeoff?

@brucel.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 10:53 AM

Fair.

@brucel.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 9:11 AM

Brogrammers couldn't wrap their megabrains around not-a-real-language CSS, so decided to reinvent it and fight against the web platform for their own convenience. Who could possibly have predicted it would be crap for users, and would need expensive surgery to drain the festering pus?

It’s a real shame that folk a decade ago weren’t warning developers against utterly insane things like CSS-in-J —  oh.

Apparently apple haven't yet condescended to approve it yet.
