The Green Man’s Debt Wizard’s Tower Press 10th September 2026

The Riven Kingdom Angry Robot Books 27th October 2026

Lessons in Life and Death for The Iron Code Stories in honour of
David Gemmell Out now!

Cover art by Ben Baldwin for The Green Man's Debt by Juliet E McKenna. A grey wolf with pale eyes stands in the shadows of a derelict building with a black and white tiled floor. The wolf is looking straight at you. Its snarl reveals blood on its teeth and jaw.

The Riven Kingdom cover art by Alice Claire Coleman is in the style of a stained glass window. Blue-green leaves and vines dotted with golden flowers coil around silver swords in panels on either side. These are topped with a golden sun on the left and a yellow crescent moon on the right. In the centre, rival hands stretch upwards trying to get hold of a crown that's just out of reach...

The Iron Code cover art by Fangorn shows a double-headed axe held up against sunlight breaking through dark clouds above a storm-tossed sea.

In light of some magazines pulling scummy things on creators lately, I’m doing a little thread on short story rights. I don't want anybody getting taken advantage of. Also, if you're new, this stuff can be confusing!

I would be EXTREMELY annoyed to discover my PR is "AI"-generated, and as someone bombarded with dozens of "AI"-generated emails daily, I assure you the stink of "AI" is immediately noticable and immediately dismissible. Publishers are not doing their new books any favors in using it.

I did a kids’ illustration workshop in @chaptersbookstore.bsky.social in Dublin this morning, and as I do sometimes, I took suggestions from the kids to help make a monster. So blame them.

I’ll be doing another workshop next Saturday at 11am, so feel free to drop in (ideally with your kids).

A monster based on suggestions from the kids. It looks like a scaly, three-eyed werewolf with bat’s wings and horns, emitting a stink and dripping slime.

More than two dozen workers at three major publishing houses—HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette—tell WIRED that LLMs are being used for publicity, cover art, back cover copy, and emails, as some execs push junior staff to champion the tech.

Re the Wired article revealing the extensive use of GenAI at three media corporations. A lot of publishing executives are about to learn about the Trust Thermocline the hard way.

1. This software did nothing 'on its own'. The human who approved its programming and release is responsible. 2. These programs are based on scraped government website instructions and millions of illegally obtained novels without any attempt made to distinguish between fact and fiction.

This is the sort of credulity that we as humans cannot afford in our press. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THESE SO FAR HAS BEEN “ACTING ON ITS OWN” every single one has been trained on data where people had done this first and then asked to attempt to do this all for the “if anything our AI is *too* powerful”

This is pure bad faith from MRM—they are not new to this business and are perfectly aware this is all bullshit. These magazines essentially no longer exist: they were bought simply to use their reputations as a trap to suck IP out of writers and artists who don't know any better.

When There Are Wolves Again is a hopeful, engaging, and profound novel. Is it pollyannaish? Perhaps a smidge. But mostly in the sense of the original 1913 novel Pollyanna, which urged optimism-driven action in the face of adversity. Courage my friends, 'tis not too late to make a better world.

I own copyright on the vast majority of cover art I’ve created. And yes, I own the right to make prints of that art. But even when fans demand I make prints upon book release, I don’t do it @ that time. Why? Because I want the author and publisher to make $$$$$. But those art rights remain mine.

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment.

Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

I love Asimov's Science Fiction and the magazine's editors. I've published many stories in the magazine. I subscribe to the magazine. Despite that, I'm done with the new MRM owners. This statement is BS. The new owners have squandered the goodwill of their magazines' readers, writers, and fans. 1/
