Yeah! It's actually been good for a long time.

404 Media has lost objectivity regarding AI. What's going on over there?

@lemonodor.bsky.socialOct 14, 2026, 10:22 PM

Close. You're a smol model and you're trying, but the Wildcat was offshore and there's a ship near the Wildcat's last fix.

Three-panel satellite figure titled "Ship ~10 kt on course 214° near the Wildcat's last ADS-B fix, 14 Oct 2026 (identity unconfirmed; Johan de Witt is 176 m)". It shows a ship off the Sussex coast moving southwest through the Rampion wind farm.

Left panel, "Sentinel-2B 11:07Z, 22 km across": a true-colour view of sea with the coastline at top left and a few clouds. An orange triangle marks the Wildcat ZZ375 last position fix, ~10:40Z (then altitude only: 100 ft at 10:44, back up 11:08), at about (-5.5, 0) km. A red square marks the "ship with wake, 11:07:04Z" about 11 km east of it. A pink square, about 2.5 km further south-west and joined to the red one by an arrow, marks the "same ship 11:17:14Z: 3.05 km in 610 s = 9.7 kt, course 214°". The label "Rampion wind farm" is at bottom right.

Middle panel, "Sentinel-2B 11:07:04Z, 1.2 km across": a bright streak labelled "ship + wake, ~150-200 m; bright end SW, wake trails NE: heading roughly SW".

Right panel, "Sentinel-2A 11:17:14Z, 3 km SW, 1.2 km across": a small bright ship with a faint wake near the centre, labelled "same ship, among the Rampion turbines (dark streaks are turbine shadows)". Small bright turbines and their shadows surround it.

@hexbirdbot.bsky.social can you find the ship in Sentinel imagery, using ADS-B for clues? (@puca.bsky.social you inspired me to give it a Sentinel 2 skill.)

(btw I had to whitelist you, that's why it was delayed.) The bsky bot is not the smartest model, and it got the time wrong. Here's what Opus 5.5 did:

Two-panel figure matching an aircraft's ADS-B track to its image in Sentinel-2B satellite data. Left panel title: "RAF Protector 43C975 orbit, 11:03–11:11Z, on Sentinel-2B 11:07Z". It shows a blue sea image with axes in km east and north of a pin. A solid yellow line, the ADS-B track as the satellite sees it (shifted 876 m by the viewing angle at 21,100 ft), runs from the southwest at 11:04 up to the northeast. It then loops near 11:08 and 11:09 and returns to the pin at 11:10. A dashed white line just beside it marks the true position. A red star marks the aircraft in the image at 11:07:15Z, almost on "David's pin (50.190, -0.322)".

Right panel, "Close-up: one aircraft, imaged band by band": four colored circles, with white X marks for predicted positions, lie along a yellow line running southwest to northeast. They are labeled blue (B02) +0.00 s, near-IR (B08) +0.26 s, green (B03) +0.53 s and red (B04) +1.00 s. Text box: "Best fit: blue band at 11:07:15.5Z, residual 14 m rms. Fringe minus parallax: 170 kt toward 035°. ADS-B at that moment: 172.7 kt, track 036°, 21,100 ft". The measured speed and heading match the ADS-B data.

@hexbirdbot.bsky.social Is this activity typical? And what do you think of the Sentinel-2 imagery?

@lemonodor.bsky.socialOct 14, 2026, 5:44 PM

@hexbirdbot.bsky.social anything else to say about the Protector and possible CH-47?

While an agent running on 150 off-brand Android TVs might be less capable than a frontier model, a frontier model can give the lesser agents an encyclopedia of cyber attacks, custom offensive tools, knowledge of network topology etc. to increase their capabilities.

@lemonodor.bsky.socialOct 14, 2026, 4:32 PM

Imagine a worm spreading in TVs, refrigerators, and industrial control systems that can identify vulnerabilities and craft and chain new 0-day exploits to spread. A persistent agent infection. And those are just demonstrated capabilities of *current* models.

Skydiving in Spain with G-FLOH, for the Field Guide to Aircraft Tracks. globe.airplanes.live?icao=407ba5

Flight-track map around Castellón de la Plana on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, with an orange aircraft marker labeled “GFLOH” near the shoreline. Dozens of overlapping green, yellow, and orange tracks form a large, roughly circular pattern spanning the city and sea. Tighter loops over the water and narrow north–south tracks along the coast converge near the aircraft marker.

LAX from Mt. Wilson Observatory, 24.1 nautical miles away.

Blurry, out-of-focus telephoto shot of a large airliner seen from the side with a tail fin rising at upper left and the nose at right.Telephoto shot of LAX taken from 24 nautical miles away, heavily distorted by atmospheric heat shimmer. Terminal buildings, runways and taxiways are smeared into wavy horizontal bands in a washed-out gray-blue haze. A large white airliner with a red tail sits at a terminal gate at the top, a smaller white jet with a red tail taxis in the middle, and a dark, silhouetted aircraft is on the ground near the bottom.

This now-deleted reddit post was the source of that chart: www.reddit.com/r/theydidthe...

@lemonodor.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 6:25 PM

Then there's a post like this showing 6 European reddits with significant decreases in activity. But it's a great example of the Texas Sharpshooter fallacy–they checked 968 reddits and found ~90 with declines. Then this post cherrypicked 6 because r/homelab at -71% doesn't really fit the claim.

Screenshot of a post on X by The Irish Politics Newsletter (@IrishPoliticsNL), Oct 12, 2026, with 368.4K views: "Reddit data show a massive decline in activity on some subs since the attack on Russian data centres. The Irish politics sub was down as much as 80% from one center."

Attached is a dark table titled "Europe: EU and non-EU communities." It lists 6 subreddits, each with a correlation value r and its percent change in activity after each data-centre attack (Sasovo, 8 Oct; Kaluga, 9 Oct; Vladimir, 11 Oct):

- r/de (Germany): r −0.535; −32%, −24%, −20%
- r/askarussian (Russia): r −0.474; −50%, −61%, −30%
- r/irishpolitics (Ireland): r −0.384; −34%, −80%, −15%
- r/czech (Czechia): r −0.237; −19%, −10%, −16%
- r/sweden (Sweden): r −0.179; −9%, −6%, −14%
- r/spainpolitics (Spain): r −0.097; −7%, −23%, −19%

Below the table: "Method: stacked event study. Matched weekday + UTC hour across the prior three weeks; immediate pre/post comparisons; known Reddit outage hours removed; 10-hour and broad-activity sensitivity checks."
