(Actually, I *think* last time I asked my car "Hey Siri record a voice note" it started my phone off recording the note fine but used the phone mic rather than the car's)

From Apple's June '26 CarPlay Developer's Guide, which doesn't exactly fill me with hope they'll grant a "CarPlay voice-based conversational entitlement" to me for a personal app 🤷‍♂️

Recording In general, recording is not supported while in CarPlay. If your app has recording features, don't enable them when CarPlay is active. If you activate an audio session with recording enabled, it can affect audio playback from other sources and impact audio input for the car's own functions such as voice assistants and phone calls. While in CarPlay, configure audio sessions without recording features. An exception is for CarPlay navigation and voice-based conversational apps which use recording features tor voice input. In these apps, recording features may be used, but only in conjunction with the voice control template.

Siri commands are designed for short voice-directed actions, not (potentially) 10-min long recordings of me rambling thoughts which I need to KNOW are being recorded. If "Siri record a voice memo" opened a CarPlay Voice Memos app with "Recording..." and a STOP button I'd have that.

I think this should work, but I haven't tried in ages coz Siri routinely misunderstands me at the best of times, let alone when talking to a 3rd-party Carplay device in an old car with the windows down. And...

Context: I desperately want to press a big "Record" button on either my Apple Watch or CarPlay and end up with the audio file on my mac WITHOUT ANY FRICTION. There are two things on the app store which do this but both are janky af. So: 1. Voice Memos should do this 2. Apple should let me make this

How on earth is Apple Voice Memos not available in CarPlay? Does Apple really thing it's safer for folks to dictate into their phone that to press a big "New Voice Note" button in CarPlay and just talk at the car?

That’s kinda what the green & yellow cable is doing. It’ll connect the pipes to the main earthing terminal, which will either be connected to the supply earthing conductor or a rod in the ground, though I believe the latter is more complicated since soil conducts differently etc.
