"Whoever changes his religion, kill him." -- Sahih al-Bukhari 6922 SAHIH AL-BUKHARI is the 2nd most important, authoritative book in Sunni Islam (87 % of Muslims). It's all about what Prophet Muhammad said, did & approved. These reports are used to establish Islamic beliefs, practices & laws. ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

Apostasy: killing someone who leaves Islam
Sahih al-Bukhari 6922
The reported statement
"Whoever changes his religion, kill him."
Why it is controversial: The report has traditionally been used to justify capital punishment for apostasy. Critics argue that punishing someone for changing their beliefs violates freedom of conscience.
How it is interpreted: Classical Sunni jurists generally treated apostasy as a potentially capital offence under specified legal conditions. Some contemporary Muslim scholars argue that the report concerns political defection or rebellion in its historical context, rather than a private change of religious belief. Others retain the traditional interpretation.

Gods are also used to obtain people's vote, as well as to subject women to male authority.

Gods are superfluous for morality.

We don't need to believe in a god to recognise that other people can suffer, that kindness matters, that cruelty causes harm, or that people deserve to be treated fairly.

My morality is based on how we treat one another, our capacity for empathy, our responsibility for the consequences of our actions, and our willingness to think critically about right and wrong.

You may believe that your morality comes from God. I respect your right to hold that belief. But you cannot reasonably conclude that, because I don't share your religious beliefs, I've no moral principles of my own.

Let's judge each other by our principles and, above all, by how we actually treat other people.

If you maintain that any god is responsible for what we have, then let's remember he also gave us plagues & natural disasters. And most of all alleged god allows for thousands of innocent children to die of starvation every day. Better to believe in humanity & try save children from starvation.
