Let's talk about community safety. #yyj #yyjpoli

Perhaps. People do like giveaways. I think it may have been smarter to change the policy to prime (from time minus 2) to gauge the response first. The big swing enabled some populism that will đź’Ż win some votes. Property taxes are going up at a rapid rate, due to largely uncontrollable factors.

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:30 AM

This would be very popular. I’ve met numerous seniors who stopped deferments due to higher interest rates. Rightly or wrongly.

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 2:41 AM

This will be very appealing to many islanders.

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 9:57 PM

That’s unfortunate

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 6:41 PM

Are COPE and OneCity volunteers helping him out at all?? I’ve heard the Van Greens have a small volunteer pool. And who is managing his campaign?

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 6:28 PM

Man of the people!

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 6:25 PM

That is a good question. Not nearly enough. I’m across the sea, so not as plugged in as you are, but his campaign seems pretty low-key, from what I can glean online.

Her holding a press conference and sending out an email to her followers would influence a few thousand votes. I love pluralism and want choice in democracy. But late-stage strategic voting has its place, especially in this historically dire situation.

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 6:08 PM

Realistically, he’s too far down in every poll. Pete is the only viable candidate who can defeat Sim. He’s not going to please everyone, I get that. But the situation is dire and he will move the city back towards respectability and progress.

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 6:06 PM

Because defeating Sim is a priority. Either way, it’s too late to remove someone from the ballot. But Bligh could say “I am way down in every poll; please consider voting strategically.” Her 5-6% could be the difference-maker.

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 4:00 PM

I really like Bligh. She’s a great person with a solid track record. But read the room and the polls. It’s time to encourage her voters to support Pete.

Culture war comes to YEG — mandated parking minimums and protecting 1980s-era “character.”

What is like to see is a first-ever commitment to value-added commerce in this country. We’re missing out on jobs and additional value by shipping off our raw materials.

Conservatives don’t believe in meddling in local government jurisdiction, until they do.

Drastic tax cuts + major new capital spending = fantasyland

It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve. Premiers should not have that power, period.

The authors of “The World We Long For” are in town as part of their book tour. Check it out, if you can!

I like the idea, but fairly sure it wouldn’t hold water legally for LGs in BC. I need to get a BN from staff on this one to better understand it and what we could do with it.

I want to learn more about how this program would complement or stack with our program that offers tax breaks for deep retrofits of older apartments.

@jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 7:15 PM

This is the part that jumped out at me: “The federal government said it will also work with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to provide low-interest financing for apartment building owners to retrofit more than 280,000 homes over the next eight years.”
