Every time I get a ride home from a friend, Google Maps tries to put them on Woodland Park, rather than take the arterial two blocks away (Stone Way) and turn off at the closest side street. Every time I have to tell them they will regret taking Woodland Park because it's not setup as an arterial.

So neighborhoods are just there as highways between parking lots for drivers, regardless of anyone who lives or works there?

@skytransitcyclist.bsky.socialOct 13, 2026, 1:35 AM

I really appreciate seeing politicians at least trying to live a week in the shoes of a non-driver. Despite the article title, I hope she decides to continue with her test because non-drivers like me and @nondriver.bsky.social don't even have the choice, regardless of weather, or time commitments.

My biggest desire would be to see state DOTs go bankrupt in their "just-one-more-lane-bro" addiction. I guess there's some truth to that. Fortunately, our local state highway department (WSDOT) is bonded to the hilt so they're taking care of that themselves.

I certainly wish I could be paid traffic engineer salary for trying to make Aurora better, but I suspect my desire to make the street safe for everyone would disqualify me completely from the profession.

really only wanted to talk about how if she parked fully in the street, other drivers would hit her car. The argument included the claim that the 16' wide street was too narrow so she was justified in blocking the 3' wide sidewalk.

@skytransitcyclist.bsky.socialOct 13, 2026, 1:23 AM

I literally had an argument with a driver who was pissed that I was reporting her car to parking enforcement because it was half on the sidewalk, and she claimed that she was very much aware of the safety issues, including for children (especially her child) needing to walk in the street, but she

not make the 4th Ave bus lane 24x7 and add the bus stop back? @transportation.seattle.gov @kingcountymetro.bsky.social @sound-transit.bsky.social

@skytransitcyclist.bsky.socialOct 13, 2026, 1:18 AM

People use transit to access anything that a person with a car would be accessing - groceries, appointments, recreation, and participate in our democratic society. Removing this bus stop introduces a two-block gap in one of the densest areas of Seattle. If we're worried about bus travel times, why

Sno-Isle has the best card designs!

@skytransitcyclist.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 12:15 AM

As someone who can't drive, I get that giving up driving can be an access issue. OTOH, I would really not like to be the sacrifice so that society can continue not providing good alternatives to driving.

I've heard decent things about Mint as well, another T-Mobile MVNO. IME the T-Mobile infrastructure is fine, it's the cost, corporate bureaucracy, and tacking on endless add-ons that we don't want/need that's the terrible part.

@skytransitcyclist.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 11:55 PM

as well. She went back to lamenting the safety of her car, and asked if I was the person reporting "all" of the neighborhood's cars to parking enforcement. I laughed, said only today since I don't live there. She was really not happy, since I guess she realized there's another person who cares...

to park safely, so she has to block the sidewalk. I pointed out that as humans, we get injured, and to put a car's safety ahead of a human's is not actually safe. She then claimed that she does care about safety, especially child safety, and I responded that a child would have to walk in the street

educed by 1' due to overgrowth. While on the phone with parking enforcement, the owner walked out of her house with what I assume was her kid. She asked what I was doing, I told her I was calling parking enforcement because she was blocking the sidewalk. She explained that the street is too narrow

In this latest #carbrain episode, I was on a walk enjoying our beautiful fall weather, when I came across a car parked wheels-up on the sidewalk. The street at that location is probably 18' wide, including 8' for parking. The sidewalk is 3', maps.app.goo.gl/RWisoAKqrbGk...

I use Husky Mobile, which is UW's Collegiate Mobile brand and available to anyone with a UW affiliation. They're a T-Mobile MVNO but is less than half the cost and so far has been much more flexible - we can choose exactly what plan we want month-to-month. collegiatemobile.com/uw-husky-mob...

Based on bus serial number, service disruption sign, and fare reader design, best guess is you're on a 40' CNG-powered 2023 Gillig BRTPlus operated by SacRT (Sacramento). Could be wrong though. :)

@skytransitcyclist.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 4:19 PM

Huh, so person driving a $100k car designed by the world's biggest sociopath needs more than a few $100 tickets to actually be considered punishment?

At least the guy's honest about his selfishness?
