This isn’t a routine extension. It’s the largest coal mine expansion proposed in NSW. Approving 429 million tonnes of coal well into the 2040s is completely incompatible with climate action. If Labor has any shred of climate integrity left, it must reject this project.

This project is a critical test of Labor’s climate credibility. The Hunter Valley Operations project would allow 429 million tonnes of coal to be mined through to 2045. Labor can’t claim to take climate action seriously and wave through 800 million tonnes of pollution.

The biggest coal mine expansion ever proposed in NSW has been approved by the Minns government. It threatens to wipe out Australia's emissions reductions. This is a major test for Anthony Albanese and Murray Watt; they cannot provide federal approval to a project of this scale.

Privatisation has failed. Every time an essential service is privatised, people quite literally pay for it. The price goes up and the quality of service goes down.

And crucially, this failure is shared by both the major parties.

It’s time to break up the duopoly, and stop letting big corporations leverage our essential services to fatten their bottom lines.

It’s time politics worked for you, not the big supermarkets.

Woolies and Coles made a combined $2.2 billion in profits last year, while 53% of Australians reported finding it harder to put food on the table. If Aussies are struggling to put food on the table, Coles and Woolies shouldn’t be posting massive profits.

@larissawaters.bsky.socialSep 11, 2026, 1:16 AM

The same basket of groceries at Woolworths has gone up 8.5% in the last 16 months. And not only are prices rising, but your pay check isn’t keeping up - wages grew just 3.2% last year.

@larissawaters.bsky.socialSep 11, 2026, 1:16 AM

The big supermarkets want us to think they’re struggling with inflation, fuel prices and the cost of living too – and that’s why you’re paying more. Woolies is already in hot water with the ACCC for misleading customers, yet here they are lying about blatantly ripping us off.

Labor, the Liberals and One Nation keep siding with fossil fuel corporations, even as the climate crisis worsens. They're working for their donors, not people or the planet.

We are witnessing the climate crisis in real time; fires and heatwaves raging across Europe and North America, glacial collapse and flooding across Asia. Here in Australia we are preparing for a dangerous El Nino summer. And Labor’s response is to approve another coal mine.

The PM is in Palau telling the media that now is not the time to talk about climate change, while Pacific leaders are calling out Australia’s climate hypocrisy. If now is not the time to talk about climate change, when is?

@larissawaters.bsky.socialSep 3, 2026, 5:27 AM

The Environment Minister can’t avoid criticism by pointing the finger at the new National Environmental Protection Agency. This bad decision lies firmly at his feet. We need a climate trigger in our laws. And we need to stop opening new coal and gas.

@larissawaters.bsky.socialSep 3, 2026, 5:27 AM

37 coal and gas mine approvals under Labor is 37 too many. The Albanese government has today approved the extension of a coal mine in Queensland that will allow them to keep digging until 2055, and threaten critical koala habitat.

@larissawaters.bsky.socialSep 1, 2026, 1:36 AM

Without real action to reduce emissions, these disasters will keep getting worse and more frequent. We need to hold the fossil fuel companies responsible to account. And Labor needs to stop letting them open new coal and gas projects.

In the wake of this disaster, Nepal's foreign minister has called for a "global effort" to tackle climate change. Australia must play its part. Nepal’s per-capita emissions remain among the lowest in the world. Yet it is among the worst-hit by rising temperatures.

My condolences to the family and friends of Australian Michael Keats today. We mourn his loss, the ongoing devastation in Nepal, and the unknown fate of 42 other Australians. My thoughts are with everyone awaiting news of their missing loved ones, and grieving those lost.

Labor, the Liberals and One Nation keep siding with fossil fuel corporations, even as the climate crisis worsens. Because they have a vested interest; in opening new coal and gas, in letting the big polluters pollute. They're working for their donors, not people or the planet.

@larissawaters.bsky.socialAug 28, 2026, 12:52 AM

We have an obligation to meet our emissions targets and to keep coal and gas in the ground. No more coal and gas. It’s that simple. Unless we start taking the climate crisis seriously, these disasters will continue to happen at a more rapid scale.

@larissawaters.bsky.socialAug 28, 2026, 12:52 AM

The destruction is shocking, but these scenes are becoming too familiar as we witness the climate crisis in real time. Fires and heatwaves raging across Europe and North America. Glacial collapse and flooding across Asia. While here in Australia an El Nino summer approaches.

@larissawaters.bsky.socialAug 28, 2026, 12:52 AM

Australia has more experience responding to natural disasters than most nations, and the government should ensure we are providing humanitarian and consular assistance to Nepal that meets the scale of this disaster. $5 million will barely touch the sides.
