I heard from a prospective postgraduate student this week who was about to travel to study here last week when suddenly the (federal 'labor') government banned international masters students from bringing family with them, and he had to cancel (already invested quite a lot of time and scarce funds)
Governments made them reliant on overseas income

The utter, utter stupidity … Cratering our higher education sector, with regional areas hit hardest, to pander to One Nation immigration politics. They pegged uni finances on intl students, and then started attacking the student visa intake.
Gratifying to learn that the Nobel prize committee still has a backbone and a clear sense of justice and morality. An excellent choice.
