On Bluesky now that it feels like what Twitter used to be. Before Twitter became Musk's personal plaything.

UK Chancellor rejects calls to equalise capital gains and income tax rates.

Could have generated £14bn a year.

This perk benefits less than 1% of the people, mostly in London and South East England.

Workers taxed at higher rates than the wealthy.

"What is holding back Cyprus's Schengen ambitions?"

"The European Commission says Cyprus is ready to join the Schengen Area. Yet questions relating to the island's division and British military bases could still complicate its path to Europe's border-free travel zone."

Why does this seem like it could be late stage syphilis - skin conditions and brain problems such as memory problems, personality changes and dementia - all seem to fit.

Complications of syphilis
If it's not treated, syphilis can cause serious and potentially life-threatening problems including:

heart problems like angina, aortic aneurysm and heart failure
brain problems like fits (seizures), memory problems, personality changes and dementia
nerve problems like shooting pains, pins and needles, joint pain and gradual damage to the joints
problems with the skin, bones, testicles, liver and any other organ
muscle weakness
sight and hearing problems
Some of these problems may not appear for many years after being infected with syphilis.

While this is a welcome development, it shouldn't have taken Ukraine drone bombing to put Russian data centres out of action. Social media platforms should have been aware of this from the onset but they were probably happy it was driving clicks and engagement on their sites.

*Zuckerberg and the crew and Meta decided to actually scale back or scrap moderation on the site - this is actually a key way to identify bot accounts and coordinated behaviour. And it just seemed as if Meta was paying lip service to improving the platform from malicious accounts.

@imranicus.bsky.socialOct 13, 2026, 8:12 PM

With the bot farms out of action - the difference on Facebook is striking. Zuckerberg has repeatedly said he would take action against bot accounts and identify coordinated accounts with "inauthentic behaviour" yet Meta actually seemed to the do the opposite*

The difference in emoji reactions when the bot farms are put out of action!
Just 2 laughs and one hate.... Amazing!

Russian apparently had "little impact" but the vote went the way the Kremlin hoped for - and the margin of victory (3.8%) was neither a landslide nor an emphatic victory along with 27.9% of the electorate not voting. It seems to me - we can't prove Russia swung it but neither can we disprove it

It was pretty suspect when it was reported Farage had combined Twitter video views total of 39 billion - 5.5 times the population of the earth, so many every man, woman and child in the UK would have had to have watched every single one of them 650+ times. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

It's obvious that they are not spies and the charges are trumped up - they were likely arrested on a whim because they were easy targets and then got stuck in Iran's judicial system.

Why are these fridges connected to the internet in the first place.

*Badenoch didn't mention the usual buzzwords like "Brexit betrayal" or "Leave means Leave" - simply saying Labour was "unpicking" the deal the UK signed with the EU. A week after refusing to say if Brexit benefitted London - it seems the failure of Brexit is now obvious to all.

"Burnham to push for new post-Brexit deals at EU summit"

I think the Iran war and the additional strain this is having on the UK economy has probably given the PM added impetus to seek a new arrangement with the EU

Badenoch meanwhile had a lukewarm* defence of Brexit

Apparently a more immediate solution to dealing with bot account on social media is to attack the data centres that churn out the content. But it also makes me wonder about what sort of stuff people like Musk will be cooking up in their data centres and the use of AI in doing this.

Except the December 2025 review explicitly said it would not investigate claims of foreign interference in the 2016 Brexit referendum itself, despite the review being prompted by Nathan Gill's Russia-related case.

@imranicus.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 12:02 AM

Finally, a UK Prime Minister recognises the role Russia has been playing in UK politics and beyond. The key question though is how to push back against it - the answer I think is dealing with bot accounts on social media but also putting pressure on Facebook and Musk's X platform.
