Being brown in Trump's America means having to send messages like this to my children.

You kiddos know what to do in case ICE pulls you over?
"I'm a U.S. Citizen, am I being detained or am i free to go". I invoke my 4th and 5th amendment rights. do not concent to search or questioning. I do not answer questions.

With the ICE surge happening all over I worry about my children getting harassed by these goons. My children are citizens, but ICE doesn't care. It's a scary time for all of us. And if you say "if they're legal you have nothing to worry about" then I can only conclude that you're willfully ignorant and nott paying attention to the horrors that citizens and immigrants are experiencing. Citizens have been shot, over 500 detained, some even deported. Many have been lost in the system for months until a lawyer proves their citizenship. There is no due process for people of color in America when facing ICE. You don't have any idea the mental stress we are living with. I worry about everyone, but I worry most about our children.

While all eyes were on Wilber who ICE shot in the back, in Austin, Texas, Mario David Coronado Juárez had crashed and burned in Grand Rapids , Michigan, while fleeing a different pursuit by ICE the same day. Just 2 days before Carlos Josué Marchena, died in ICE detention after 10 months captive.

In total, from January to August 5, 2026, ICE logged 8,226 arrests for the Central District. The most heavily impacted area this year is by far the City of Los Angeles, leading the Central District in kidnappings with 2,781 people taken.

Huh. What changed? I wonder if ICE kidnapping tens of thousands of Cubans and expelling them to the far corners of the earth has had an impact on her poll numbers in a Cuban diaspora majority district??
