Yesterday I suspended parliament to demand the Albanese government call Israelâs depravity in Gaza for what it really is - a genocide. Australia must expel the Israeli ambassador, end the two way arms trade, sanction Israel, and pass the Red Lines Package.
Fixing this starts by taxing polluting corporations to fund our unis. The Greens wonât rest until uni is fee- and debt-free for all.
Unis are in a mess of Laborâs making: Job cuts, wage theft and bad management are hurting staff while students in overcrowded classrooms suffer under record-high debt and fees.
For about a third of the cash spent on wealthy private schools, Labor could make uni free, just like it was for the PM in the â80s.
New report from @nteunion.bsky.social shows a massive $12.2 billion gap between our public universities and private schools.
For years the Labor government has chosen to gift private schools billions of public money while cutting funding for public uni students.
Politicians arenât handing over our resources, land, privacy and jobs to Big Tech because itâs in the public good. Theyâre doing deals that funnel money into the political system and pay for access to political power. Communities pay the price and Big Tech cashes in. What a sham.
Amazon poured over half a million dollars into the Labor and the Liberal coffers over 6 years while pursuing a massive expansion of data centres across Australia.
As a migrant myself, I say again to international students and migrant communities in Australia that the Greens have your back.
International students and their families contribute so much to our campuses and communities while they study and through their work.
The Liberalsâ proposal to âabolishâ post-study working visas is particularly nonsensical. Discouraging students from coming here in and then denying them the chance to contribute back with the skills theyâve learned isnât policyâitâs inhumane mimicry of One Nation and their billionaire backers.
The diversity of experience and talent international students bring to our classrooms and communities should be cherished. Our universities would be poorer in all senses without them.
International students and their families deserve our respect and support. But now the Liberals are competing with Labor and the One Nation to scapegoat them for problems they do not cause.
Labor has no intention of stopping climate destruction for their fossil fuel donors. The mine still needs federal approval. We must use every lever we can to stop this project.
August was the hottest month in global history and yet, NSW has just approved the biggest coal mine expansion ever proposed in the state. It is scandalous that Australia is leading negotiations at global climate talks, including in the Pacific next week.
Good on every Qantas worker fighting back. We too must fight to bring essential services back into public hands.
The flying kangaroo used to be our public national airline, but privatisation puts profits first and people last. Qantasâ moves towards insecure work have led to thousands of job losses, pushed down wages and led to unsafe working conditions.
Solidarity with Qantas workers across the country striking for fair pay and safer conditions. This industrial action is a brave stand against the corporate greed that gives workers unsafe conditions, travellers worse service, and Qantas higher profits.
If hacking Medicare and taking two months to alert the government doesnât push Labor to treat AI with the seriousness it deserves, what will?
Now is the time for the PM to fight for Australiaâs interests and implement a moratorium on data centres in Australia until we have regulations protecting people and the country.
