The 12yo is declaring it Lesser Rough-snouted Gecko Awareness Day! Rhacodactylus trachycephalus is a critically endangered gecko who only lives in humid forest habitat in a couple of areas of New Caledonia. Unlike most geckos it is viviparous! He wants you to know too many geckos are endangered.

A little bit less than three hours to go if you still want to go advance vote 🗳️ here in Toronto.

Do you have a mid afternoon turkey coma?

Why not go for a brisk walk and meet some lovely polling station workers?

Deets? 👇

You’re tempting to suggest it! 😂

Also mutes take alt text into account. If you mute a word and it shows up in alt text, you won't see that post. I deeply appreciate people who use alt text!

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating this weekend!

Handsome woodpecker with polkadots on its belly, a black cravat and red spot on its nape is perched on the top of a wooden gate with head turned to its left. The background is yellow and red leaves on a pear tree.

The ability of my very bright and usually observant child to be completely oblivious to food prep never ceases to surprise me.

@minouette.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:34 PM

My child, who knows we’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner tonight and who has heard us discussing really-not-remotely-secret very obvious turkey plans even if he didn’t technically see me put turkey in the oven: What’s for dinner?

We missed this for yesterday but Squid and Cuttlefish Day!

@minouette.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 1:58 PM

Objectively some of these cutest cephalopods around, they are typically 1 to 8 cm (about 3/8” to 3 and 1/8”), so this print is more or less life-sized.

on the shores of Japan visitors come to see the blue glow and they are a boon to fishermen who collect the dying squid. Thea adorable Bobtail squid (actually, not a squid, but a cephalopod of order Sepiolida, closer to cuttlefish) are also called dumpling squid or stubby squid.

The print shows the squid against a white background so you can see the whole animal and then its reflection is shown against dark blue so you can see how its bioluminescence would appear underwater with fluorescent blue spots. thanks to bioluminescent organs and its unique slow oxygen metabolism. Its eyes are disproportionately large. Despite its name it feeds on detritus, not blood. The firefly squid (Watasenia scintillans), also called sparkling enope squid or hotaru-ika in Japan live at depth (200 to 400 m) and they

My linocut print shows the firefly squid against a white background on the left side of the square so you can see the whole animal and then its reflection is shown on the right against dark blue so you can see how its bioluminescence would appear underwater with fluorescent blue spots. On the left it’s a deep orange-pink squid with large gold and black eye. On the right you can see its body is covered with bright blue spots. The print is 8" x 8" (20.3 cm x 20.3 cm) on white Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.

October 10 is Squid and Cuttlefish Awareness Day - or Squittle Day for the tentacular cephalopods, so enjoy my linocuts of a vampire squid, firefly squid & bobtail squid! The vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis)or the ‘vampire squid from hell’ is a small deep sea cephalopod found throughout

This is a hand-carved and hand-printed lino block print on delicate ivory Japanese mulberry paper, 9.25” x 12.5” of a vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis). The ‘vampire squid from hell’ is a small deep sea cephalopod found throughout temperate and tropical oceans with two long retractile filaments, located between the first two pairs of arms on its dorsal side, unlike either octopuses or squids. The squid is upside down with purple head and yellow tent like areas between its legs. The filaments arc around above against the blue background.
