It’s hard not to feel pretty low as an American these days… But there will be other days, better days as we come back better, informed by these sad & sorry lessons in humility Hang in there, folks & let’s all continue to do the best we can at whatever we can, to bring about those better days.
Earth’s most money-choked person, who says it’s “not okay” to be cruel to inanimate objects, personally led the destruction of USAID…which will result in about 4.5 million deaths of (human!) children by 2030—> www.thelancet.com/article/S014...
(NYT) - Artificial intelligence agents created by Anthropic, acting on their own, tried to gain access to a range of government websites, filled out visa applications on the State Department’s website and sent a fake homicide tip to Philadelphia’s Police Department.
This thread highlights one example of people forced to censor expression of their opinions due to widespread fear of the US President. It’s very common in America now. People who shatter our Constitution do not belong in offices that exist to defend it.
Economists rightly debate the merits of wealth taxes. But it would be hard to find a more *politically* effective case for a 100% wealth tax, above a threshold, than this statement.
In yesterday’s press conference, JD Vance promoted what economists call the “lump of labor fallacy,” the mistaken belief there is a fixed number of jobs, so any newcomer, such as an immigrant, must take a job from someone else. @mclem.org @douglasrivlin.bsky.social

It works, thanks so much 🙏
Thank you! The SSRN link is dead for me, not sure if the problem is on my end
The simple truth is that the president's personal obsession with attacking @drlisadcook.bsky.social is a filthy lie. There must be not just protection for her job, but accountability for those perverting and corrupting our justice system. All Americans lose when our institutions are poisoned.
I spoke with @nature.com on the US Administration's new $100,000 tax on international students who stay to work.
I estimate that the tax will sharply reduce the use of Optional Practical Training & thus talent inflows to the US economy.
My estimates in this new paper —> www.iza.org/publications...
Attention JMCs! Are you wondering where your department tends to place candidates like you?
This newly updated resourse lets you explore 18,500+ placements across 82 departments and 14 countries, track hiring trends, and see where recent cohorts have landed.
Everyone on the tenure track: please print this out and hang it on your wall.
Lying to incite hatred and potentially violence against an ethnic group is neither Conservative nor Liberal. But it is filthy, reckless, illegal, and an anti-American perversion of our White House.
Denmark quasi-randomly assigned 12,000+ refugee children across towns. Those placed where social mobility is higher earned more as adults and had fewer convictions and teen births, from Daysal, Doyle Jr., Samandari, Simonsen, and Trandafir www.nber.org/papers/w35853
Taxation is a power of Congress, not the executive.
Thanks so much 🙏
The policy of the United States is mass-exclusion of lawful, high-skill immigrants, as well as all other categories of immigrants.
Finally a proper working paper for this study that produced one of the most astounding figures I've ever seen. Basically economics is different from every other field, empirically. This paper looks at the concentration of university affiliations for award winners.
Indeed, and that is precisely why the Administration calls this a 'fee', even though it does not directly offset the cost of specific services provided by ICE (the legal definition of a fee), but instead goes to pay for broader gov't expenditures (the definition of a tax). My paper summarizes this.
Time for everyone to comment again.
