The Life magazine we all know launched in 1936. What was this?
Alden Global Capital doesn't dictate a political agenda to its 100-plus papers, which are all over the map ideologically. The only thing they have in common is that Alden has hollowed them out, cutting staff to the bone and selling off real estate.
How is it financed? How does it even cost anything?
Randall Smith and Alden Global Capital control two newspaper chains comprising more than 100 papers, including some of the largest in the country (and the Boston Herald). So what does he have to do with a little right-wing AI site?
But what's underneath? It's been 40 years. Not lots of utilities?
It's true, I'm not very familiar with it. Who cares? I realize you do, so please, tell us all about it. I'm not going to spend the time to do so myself.
I stand by the headline I wrote yesterday: "How an ex-Florida man is flooding Mass. political news with anonymous, right-wing pink slime." I've followed up by linking to something he wrote about the Globe story. If that's both-sides-ing, then I guess I don't know what the definition is.
It would have been great to extend the Red Line to Lexington Center, or even Bedford Depot. But I don't see how it could be done today without ripping out the Minuteman Bikeway, and that's not going to happen. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/10/09/m...
Simon Pacheco tells his side of the Mass Daily News story. Naturally, it's accompanied by an AI image. He says it's not "pink slime," and no, it doesn't meet every criteria. But it's partly AI-written, and until Saturday it was anonymous. So ... pinkish slime? www.massdailynews.com/2026/10/10/w...
I'd love to know paid digital figures for the ProJo and other USAT papers. I'm guessing that they're minuscule. BTW, I enjoyed reading quotes from you and Kevin Convey in Matthew Pressman's fine book about the NY Daily News. I'm reviewing it, and it should be published in a week or so.
Paid print circulation of the once-mighty ProJo is 12,569 on weekdays, 15,574 on Sundays, per the Alliance for Audited Media. In 2005, it was 164,000 on weekdays and more than 231,000 on Sundays. To be fair, the USA Today Co. chain is all-in on digital. www.golocalprov.com/business/pri...
Not something I've tracked since I don't care about print.
The Providence Journal is ending its print edition on some holidays, starting Oct. 12. (I thought they'd done this years ago.)
Very surprised to see that the ProJo hadn't already done this.

The NewsHour is posted to YouTube. I don’t think that’s going to stop.
This is different/more. Read the release.
