It's launch day for ON COURAGE!

Maddow: “INVALUABLE. A CLASSIC OF OUR TIME.”

In the dark early days of Trump II, @juliaangwin.com and I were interviewing dissidents on 5 continents, learning what Americans could do to save our republic.

I think often of this piece by @cwarzel.bsky.social from 2024. A bit of a Rosetta Stone for the last few years for me.

As a kid, I participated in remembrance ceremonies a lot. Traveled to Holland and Vimy as a kid to sing at war monuments and memorials, singing Never Again. In 2002, it all changed -- "not so much a vigil as a war rally" was how the ceremonies now went, because Canada was in Afghanistan.

Very good read on radicalism. We need more shared humanity, not less.

It was appalling to see the way protesters taunted those mourning the October 7th victims. That is not activism.

I was at the October 7 vigil in Union Square. Like many who write and think about defeating political repression, I believe in big coalitions—massive ones. They are our best technology for escaping some very complicated social problems. But we need to agree on the most basic fundamentals. My essay:

I'm doing some organizing with friends for James Talarico here in NYC this Thursday night. A range of ways to help – some direct voter outreach, some fundraising, some other stuff...and a great chance to meet likeminded folks. If you're in NYC and interested, reach out and I'll send you the info.

In the Biden administration, l led the team that developed what was arguably the first White House “AI safety” framework, the AI Bill of Rights. David Robinson, author of this forthright and sobering essay about risk culture at OpenAI and in Silicon Valley was on that team.

New just now in The Atlantic: David Robinson resigned this week. He was among the longest-tenured employees at OpenAI—and oversaw safety reports on 12 frontier launches. He is very worried: “The time for trial and error is over.” You can read his essay here: www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Dr. Oz is on my flight right now. He is sitting in the very first seat, front row. I saw him get on the plane. So when I stepped off the jetway onto the plane I approached him and put my hand out. What the man in charge of healthcare for the people on the very margins of society said…was revealing
