I think the Japanese release that's this version but Japanese might be slightly better even if no version is good. At least when I was trying to play it I got far enough into it.

but yes in terms of like, rising productions costs are going to kill games (some of them anyway, this is from 2013), this is what killed the WipEout series (at the time).

buried in this old article is a quote explaining why wipeout is good and not shit (you can play any of the PS1 versions right now and they're still shit hot 10/10 classics) cause hey they made them so they were fun if you actually played them
