This is apropos of nothing except that I need to get better about occasionally mentioning I send a twice-monthly newsletter about my writing if I want people to actually sign up to receive it!
well, yes!
We've won more games in Philly in the last nine days than the Flyers, Eagles, and Phillies combined this month.
*touches ground* something bad happened here
I really thought that when they greenlit Avatar Studios maybe they'd finally decided to start treating it like a really popular, beloved franchise and not something they're ashamed of and resent having to promote but guess not 🤷♂️
I just see a weird lump in the carpet personally
CANES WIN! CANES WIN! CANES WIN! 🌪️
oof
Now this is Canes Hockey #CarolinaCulture
Happy Banned Books Week AND Anti-Prime Day! We've spent this week fighting with Amazon, who blocked Issue 3... because a stylized illustration of a statue = porn, at least if you're a queer publication. The best way to support us is directly. Code ANTIPRIME gets you 15% off subscriptions this week.
I haven't even read this yet but I *know* it's going to hit hard.
Ahhh, thank you!! High praise, especially from you!
New from me and free to read today in @othersidespec.bsky.social: Do you like climate change-induced societal collapse? Do you like devotion that puts duty to each other above institutions? Do you like tragic queer yearning? Consider: "His Face, in the End, Inches From Mine".
That means so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
It's time #SoundTheSiren
FWIW Pangram has put out some papers explaining the tool training & architecture. These are definitely marketing pieces & should be examined in that light (they don't seem to be peer reviewed, for example?), but they don't come off as outright lying, at least to me
So for all we know, that could be Pangram, or it could be a simple regex search, or anything in between. I don't have an answer to how to handle that situation, but I think it's worth considering that if you flag markets that use detection, it won't be an easy, cut and dry thing to apply
I'm also not sure how rigorous flagging these listings can be? AFAIK, for example, Neil Clarke has mentioned using an automation to sequester possible AI submissions for further human review, but he hasn't publicly said what that runs off (and likely won't, to avoid handing AI scammers a road map)
Like @rkduncan.bsky.social already wrote, AFAIK Pangram isn't generative AI in the same way as ChatGPT. Whether it works well is maybe a separate conversation, but I want to add that many other "detectors" *are* just ChatGPT in a trenchcoat and it's probably important to be able to differentiate
"Oh yeah"
I had "Saul & Noah’s Hot Bouleutophagy Summer" in Adventitious in August!
