Took advantage of some extra space at Washington State Summer Con to spread out. Good neighbors, too: Steven Grant to the right and right behind, the irrepressible Simon Bisley. (Who kept threatening to steal my skull rings!)

An artist in the audience at my panel at Washington State Summer Con did this sketch of all of us writers in (sedate) action: Steve Grant, Steve Englehart, Mike Friedrich and me. It's pretty great overall, but I'm especially taken with the accurate size-to-face ratio of my nose!

The reframing of public spaces with branded labeling is an insidious normalization of corporate dominance and a deadening of imagination. Fans embrace a Fenway. No one cheers for Mattress King Stadium. Or so I’ve experienced.
