That is one of my favourites, though I will say that driving that makes me wish I was in my kayak heading up the Wallagaraugh to that same border instead.
I forgot to mention this near miss for an epic odometer read that I noticed while charging on the trip. So close, yet so, so far.
So for those who are thinking about an EV, but worry about range, this is a trip I did this week for work with a car that has one of the smallest batteries on the market at the moment. All on public charging with no access to household chargers and no attempt to minimise cost.

Love to see the Minister caught in either incompetence or a lie by work I put out last month. No, Minister King: Your government hasn't even come close to implementing the Pepper Inquiry's recommendations on Beetaloo. You don't get to claim completion when you're less than 5% of the way there.
I don't love listening to myself speak, but I listened back to my interview this morning on Darwin ABC Radio. I actually did a pretty good job. You can listen in here if you like. I'm on at six minutes in, just after the story about a dog being taken by a croc on Casuarina Beach.
Look at this old fella! At least I think those eyes are a sign of age. The only cockies I have ever met with these eyes were captive and old. (If you know for a fact that this is a sign of disease let me know. Especially if it's a communicable one that I need to disinfect, etc. for.)
At 110km/h - which is the speed I was doing for one of my close encounters - I reckon you would be lucky if you got away with your life.
Good work to your friend though. 💛
Oh no. Not my dog. They were talking about that story while I was sitting on the phone waiting for them to come to me though. As a big dog lover, I was getting weepy about it, then immediately had to make myself professional.
Nah. Listener questions for me, which is always hard.
Lol. I just realised how I am dressed. Which really sells the point about why I was tearing up. I am wearing a shirt with my dog's picture and name on it.
I just had my first live radio interview in yearrrrrs, on ABC Darwin. The story before me was about a dead dog found on the beach (😭) and I had listener questions. Holy smokes!

Definitely not unfortunately. Without knowing the EU situation in detail I guess it is probably worse here. Some of the apps here are incredibly greedy with your data in a way that I suspect would be unlawful in the EU.
Nup. Our overnight rates is 6c per kWh.
Good to know. I will be stashing that intel away from another day. But I also didn't actually pay that price. In real money my trip up cost me $25, then another $25 on the way home. Everything else was covered by my free voucher.
I pulled into Cann River with loads of battery left, having trusted ABRP's calcs and knowing that if they handled that mountainous terrain, they can probably reliably do anything well enough.
Between Cooma and Cann River there are zero chargers. Around Bombala you are literally 100km from a charger in every direction. I had a creeping irrational sense of "oh dear." there, but there was no real risk, especially with the elevation difference being damned near a kilometre downhill.
Easily this. Though it did improve after a while.

Last month, EVs were the most common drivetrain of any car sold in Australia. This time last year, they were at ~10% of new sales. I don't even think there are even pieces of that dam wall remaining. This is contestably the quickest shift in public opinion on energy to ever occur.
When the infrastructure matches demand better - which means more chargers on common routes and more frequent chargers on uncommon routes - it can be the only car for statistically everyone. This week is just about the worst EV infra will ever be. I was fine in a car that was not fit for purpose.
