Stuck in the Liminal Space Between Sleep and Waking
While Listening to Tori Amos' "Space Dog," I Find
Myself Astral Projecting to the Moon and Beyond
after "On an early morning flight, I saw a shadow that reached into space" by Mack
Rogers
I imagine a garden path of bricks and pavers, winding and guiding my journey, and, as I walk on
them, they turn to ash and dust and mud and carbon, falling away in the black nothing of
 space.
I imagine my fingers surrounded by stars, constellations caught beneath my nails, the entire
universe spinning in my hands, twinkling like stanza breaks.
I imagine the Earth below me – no, I see the Earth below me – and below me, the Earth is made
not of atoms but of whitespace.
What if, when we learned to split the whitespace, cities were not destroyed but instead created?
What if, love — what if I could plant these stars and build us a garden of asters and nasturtiums in
 the sky?
What if you could follow me here?
From Earth, the moon is new, so sharp you'll think you can prick your finger on it.
All beyond the exosphere, I imagine being pulled by a new gravity of quiet things: a seed pod
freshly fallen off an emerging seedling, a robin's nest ready for hatchlings, a dwarf star
 distant and bold, your embrace.
On the moon, I lay in a crater unable to sleep, pining for the sun.
I will not create tomato plants here, nurtured with my piss and shit, though Hollywood tells me I
 can.
Maybe, I'll plant Joe Pye Weed.
I lay in the crater and my fingers paint figures in space: antelopes and horses and gods and

Did I send this text to my boss this morning? Yes, yes I did send this text to my boss this morning. 😴

Me: Morning, sir. Sorry.
The dog ate my alarm clock. On my way in right now.

Boss: But you don't have a dog!

Happy September, poets! While I queue up some Green Day (I promise you, it's not *that song*)... Where y'all submitting to this month?

@anthonyframe.bsky.socialAug 31, 2026, 5:24 PM

I'm a little hesitant to push this since I already have more than 400 submissions to read... No, scratch that. Send those poems in! Let's hit 500! Or even better - 600!
