I do like this theory, but I have a very old vague memory of the person giving the disc to the driver. But one cannot in any way rely on a childhood memory, happy to wrong about that.

Who is paying them though? Presumably their regular employer would notice they’d submitted more tacho hours than allowed?

Long shot but anyone know how analogue tachograph fraud worked? Someone I knew in the 80s used to hitchhike holding out blank tachographs and I want to know how that all worked. I know how tachographs worked but not why a blank one was hitchhiking currency.
