I'm sorry it didn't pan out this year! I'm really busy and completely inept with fashion, otherwise I'd have given it a shot
Oh, uh, In throwing it out there now that I've been toying with the idea of changing my name from Carbon_GM to Carbon_DEV. The tabletop thing never really worked out and I do development stuff now, so...
ANNOUNCEMENT: I'm making a video game!
The working title is ASTROMECHA! It's a coop game about being small robots who repair derelict space ships in a post-apocalyptic world.
This is a running thread of my #solodev experience and the things I'm working on. Until I get an itch/steam page going!
That's unbelieveable! Great work Bonni!
I was gonna post my write pu of the macro gameplay loop, but it's 6,700 characters long, Like, thrice the size of the alt text character limit. Might hold off for now. Not like it's finalized anyways <_<
Thanks for all the support on my little project announcement. I don't have a ton to show for it yet, so I worry. But its been great fun to work on!
Also, I need to work on the lighting. Realtime lighting is a must here, and there's a million small light sources, with no Global Illumination. I got everything working against me on it, sigh. But lighting is icing on the cake for visuals, so I gotta learn!
Right now I'm working on detailing the interiors, and I need to take another crack at the exterior of the ship soon too. There was recently a huge setback and I had to remove the interaction and inventory system. I'm waiting on some developments before moving on that, tho. For now, I'll be modeling
That makes two of us!
Repairs are shared, how things are divvied up is entirely up to the players. Some will also be entirely optional; Your goal is to make the ship basically functional, so getting 80% there and calling it compete for a diminished reward is part of dynamic
Your ship has all the functional systems of the ships you repair, and they can break in the same ways; If you shut down the reactor, all the power cuts. This is what I'm preparing for now. To set out the function of the ship, so I can cut my teeth on making the actual gameplay later.
Your homebase is the FMSS Wintermute, the ship in the initial images. It's currently crude and incomplete, apologies. The entire ship is modeled and accessible, inside and out. There will be a few NPCs onboard who facilitate certain mechanics and can be talked to for a bit of lore and such.
Thank you so much, Bun!
Things like fighting weak enemies, getting high enough to see what's on a shelf, doing anything that requires opposable thumbs, etc. Use industrial tools creatively and get in trouble trying something stupid with friends" I like to describe it as Lethal Company crossed with House Flipper
A large part of the gameplay dynamic is that you are a 1m tall R2-D2-esque robot with wheels and a single claw hand. You are a model built to repair ships, and you're good at that, and not much else inherently. Repairing the ships is trivial, it's all the stuff surrounding it which is difficult.
"Play a team of non-humanoid robots who 'flip' abandoned space ships. Go in blind, learn about the ship, gain access to it's systems, defeat hazards, and make it functional/safe again. Bring a kit of equipment to give yourself strengths, and work as a team to overcome individual weaknesses.
I've been working privately for 2.5 months now. The groundwork has been laid and I've got a good scope of what this will look like, and an overwhelming urge to yap. So, yap we will! There's a lot I've done, and way more to do. First thing is to catch y'all up. The elevator pitch is:...
Preface: This is my first time making a proper video game. However, I've made multiple non-game Unity programs in the past, I have years of 3D modeling experience, and I'm familiar with making large creative projects. So, like, I'm new-ish I'm using Unity 6.5 & I'm modeling almost everything myself
