1. Start an unnecessary war.
2. Wait for gas prices to get ridiculous.
3. Give money to your good buddy Putin to “fix” the problem you created.
4. Profit.

HC execs, could you not be evil for like, twelve seconds??? (I am published by HC. The people I work with are absolutely lovely! But they don’t steer the boat, unfortunately.)

@jessiemihalik.comOct 9, 2026, 8:56 PM

Fingers crossed for you and everyone in the path!

@jessiemihalik.comOct 9, 2026, 8:50 PM

I seriously didn’t even notice! Maybe I’m in a bread coma, lol. Probably more bread will fix us both!

@jessiemihalik.comOct 9, 2026, 8:45 PM

Fridge starter really is a game changer! I’m too scattered to feed a starter every day, lol. And I’ve made that one, too! I make it if I’m shorter on time (or want bread faster).

@jessiemihalik.comOct 9, 2026, 8:42 PM

Always happy to help! I made bread because I’d forgotten about mine for months, so I needed to revive him, lol.

@jessiemihalik.comOct 9, 2026, 8:39 PM

Oh, and you can obviously make round boules, too, in a dutch oven, I just prefer the pullman pan because it makes a nicer loaf for sandwiches and toast.

@jessiemihalik.comOct 9, 2026, 8:37 PM

It’ll probably have black water on top, but as long as it’s not obviously moldy, it should be okay! Just feed it for a few days. I just did this with mine, and the first day was barely anything, but the second was better.

Addendum: This recipe is EXTREMELY forgiving. I tried the America’s Test Kitchen version and had so many failures, I don’t know why. King Arthur hasn’t let me down. Also, your dough will grow A LOT on the counter. It pretty routinely escapes my 4qt pyrex bowl, even with the lid on. Be aware! 😂

@jessiemihalik.comOct 9, 2026, 8:30 PM

In the morning, I very (very!) roughly shape it into a log and put it in an oiled pullman pan. I have this Emile Henry, which is expensive but worth it (to me). link.amazon/B0hkecSa2

I let it rise for 2-3 hours, then bake!

It sounds like a lot, but hands-on time is probably like 20 minutes. 3/3

@jessiemihalik.comOct 9, 2026, 8:30 PM

Make the dough in the evening. I use King Arthur’s no-knead recipe, mostly. (www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/no-k...)

I leave the dough on the counter overnight, rather than the fridge, because it tastes more sour to me that way. I also use AP flour, or a mix, depending on what I have. 2/

People think homemade sourdough is fussy, and I guess if you’re trying to level up, it can be, but if you just want a loaf of bread to eat, it’s dead simple. My starter lives in the fridge. I forget about him more often than not, but he’s still kicking. Feed the starter in the morning. 1/

My patience has been rewarded!

Bread is in the oven! One hour, plus one hour of patience, and then we feast. :)

My often-mistaken email address was made the alternate pickup person for someone’s curbside grocery order in NY, and the little devil that lives inside of me *really* wants me to click the “I’m on my way” button, lol. I didn’t. But I was tempted.

This week's #FridayFling prompt is "attract," and my offering is from Tikka Chance on Me. My award-winning 2018 not-really-a-biker-romance novella, it was written on a whim and became my most popular story. Trucker and Pinky still bring me joy.

A square promo graphic with the Friday Fling hashtag and prompt at the top and my Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder byline at the bottom. The following excerpt text is in between: But it was more than just sex. This thing between us. This thing that had twisted me up with grief and then drowned me in so much relief that he was okay. I had feelings for him. Bigger than attraction, bigger than lust. They started with ‘like’ and ended with…heartbreak. Fuck. He was going to hurt me. I was going to hurt me. And still I’d decided to follow his bland brown car to yet another motel room.
The Shady Lane was about a quarter-mile past the Pineview Inn, off a stretch that included several gas stations and what had, when I was a kid, been a Ponderosa steakhouse. Now it was a Chinese buffet. The whole area was kind of transient. Nobody kept track of who was staying where or for how long. It was perfect for drug deals, for late-night assignations, and for government agents who’d just killed off their identity.
I was fast becoming a connoisseur of eastern Indiana motels. If the business classes didn’t work out, maybe I could write a travel guide: Best Places to Hook Up—Your Map to No-Tells, Motels, and Hotels Run by Patels.

#FridayFling "attract"
From The Glowing Life of Leeann Wu, a novel about a 40-something midwife whose hands suddenly and mysteriously begin to glow.

Creased paper background. Text: It didn’t help that last week when I tentatively asked my longtime doctor about the sleeplessness and the strange glow, she’d told me I was likely entering perimenopause and everyone reported weird symptoms. She’d referred me to an ophthalmologist to check my eyes and muttered something about hot flushes. “Given your profession, I’m sure you know all about this.”

In my professional opinion, she could suck it. I was pretty sure hormonal temperature dysregulation wasn’t responsible for incandescent digits.

But I swallowed my outrage. I made the eye appointment, upped my Vitamin D, kept staying away from men, especially the young, attractive ones, and tried very hard not to glow.

We’re less than two months from the release of ROSES & STONE, the second/final book in the SILVER & BLOOD duology, so today’s #FridayFling is a tiny peek at someone you met in book one. 👀

Lord Mar gave Garrick a wide berth and approached my other side on a white and brown yammok. The envoy gave me a bright smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Princess Riela, it is my pleasure to accompany you today. You’ve attracted quite the crowd.”

“Yes, it seems several interlopers invited themselves along on what was supposed to be a private outing,” I murmured pointedly as he edged closer.
Mar chuckled, but his expression remained tight. “Indeed. You are too tempting to resist.”

There was a subtle warning layered under his words, but I hardly needed Mar to tell me I was a target.
