and we can talk about that when the Second Ave line finally runs to 14th st, in the year 3026
he presented an argument. he did not present good evidence.
sure, but so far there is no data to support the claim that it has, other than a statement from Zelenskyy, who has a pretty obvious vested interest in making people believe that it has regardless of what actually happened
I used (and still own) the Google TV (or whatever they're calling it these days), and while the remote is so sensitive that a gentle breeze will trigger it, I think it's the best value:money ratio out there.
This is in stark contrast to the Wampanoag (the tribe that is allegedly "thanked" in the first Thanksgiving, lol), who are much smaller in number today but mostly live in the same area as precolonial and early colonial times, so their presence is relatively visible.
This is of course not specific to NYC: most land acknowledgements are performative and lack substance. But the Lenape are a small tribe (only 15,000 members), and almost all of them live in Oklahoma now, very far from their precolonial homeland, making them often visible literally in name only here.
I'm excited for this because, as I've remarked before, for all the land acknowledgements I've heard in NYC over the years, I don't think I've ever seen anyone center a living Lenape person or their work in any way. They're treated as ghosts of the past, not living, surviving (thriving?) people.
The most annoying one is that it just randomly sometimes stops emitting audio and that doesn't go away until the device is power cycled (not even software-restarted). It only happens with the Apple TV, not any other device I use on this receiver.
yeah, I don't know why but it seems like they're all garbage. Which is why I think the winning move is to just save the money - it's not like shelling out $300 is going to save you from it
I switched from the Google TV to the Apple TV earlier this year because I was lured by the Just Worksβ’ promise, and I have to say that it is an unbelievably unreliable device, for a piece of hardware whose *only* job is "just sit there and convert a @dropout.tv stream into an HDMI signal"
The Apple TV is mostly fine, 90% of the time, but the remaining 10% is annoying enough that most people are probably better off skipping it and opting for one of the competitors that are a fraction of the price.
The new Apple TV boasts "improved AI", but no word about whether that $300 price tag will get you basic features like "it works reliably without having to power cycle it".

People should get whatever cosmetic work done for whatever reason they want, and also, separately, everyone should generally be a little more conscious about questioning the inputs of their own standards of beauty and how those intertwine with societal injustice in various ways.
honestly judging by the selfies you post on here, if you somehow figured out a way to get any hotter I think it would actually break the Internet
There is a HUGE amount of racism that is intertwined with these expectations/norms (see: how ~every successful Black/African athlete is accused of being intersex or trans because "look at her 'masculine' features) It's basically phrenology updated for the 21st century
