I absolutely love this from Peter Fonagy in his foreword to the English prevalence review. Stop judging kids today by your memories, and recognise that, if you don’t like how they’re reacting to today’s world, we’re the ones that shaped it for them.
An announcement. There will be plenty of time to reflect on what we've achieved, and on the fantastic colleagues who have helped us achieve it. But for now, sad news ukandeu.ac.uk/announcement... 1/2
This prompted me to go back and check the claim that "On current DWP forecasts, from the 2024 election until 2030, Labour will have increased working-age benefit spending by a further £51.6 bn/year." It appears to be equally fictional/spreadsheet error. Correct figure is maybe £36bn..
Bless you, that sounds heroic, good luck to you too 💪
If only Capita had a Civil Service Pension branch, I swear I would chain myself to the desk in it (tho suspect I would be far from alone...) I do wonder what the aggregate economic impact is of us all spending so much time on this crap...
Yes! When Mum went into her care home I literally ended up having to go and collect a hard copy of her NHS notes - 70-odd years worth - and deliver them by hand because they wouldn't admit her without them and the surgery couldn't send them. It's all just so debilitating and stupid.
Argh, so sorry Jane, v familiar - I am now a year into trying to activate the power of attorney for Mum's (tiny) pension with Capita and honestly cannot count the number of hours I have spent on it it. Why all organisations can't have a consistent process is beyond me 😡
Looking forward to chairing a session at this next month - always nice to pop down to Bristol...
Can we please have a "Daleks exterminate Iggy painfully" option
NEW: BBC cuts latest...
OUT - Long-running consumer affairs show You and Yours.
IN - tech and discussion podcasts.
The order has gone out from Matt Brittin - don't make content that only works on one platform.
Another grim day at the beeb.

Sorry at what point do the government feel the need to do something about BBC funding, or are they just going to watch it be salami-sliced to extinction?
Excellent front page here
I was once asked to go into the OBR and discuss the EFO. They thought I was being provocative saying it needed to be slimmed by 80% I was being serious
I reckon most of us can think of quite a few other options, you racist pillock.
A £6bn tax cut that creates a perverse incentive for older people to *upsize* is not a good policy - www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
The UK is at risk of sleepwalking into the worst parliament for disposable incomes on modern record.
Government policy could make a big difference to how these effects play out, but the window to act is narrowing.
New from @jrf-uk.bsky.social.
Excl with @jessicaelgot.bsky.social - bleak new forecasts from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation suggest soaring energy and housing costs mean Labour could be set to preside over the worst parliament for living standards in modern history: www.theguardian.com/business/202...
Yes absolutely - not saying it won't have additional benefits for some people, just that they're likely to be pretty wealthy!
