Hope I didn’t spoil the other players fun. Referee was a “play to find out” type. Good. The three hours flew by.
Offworlders is quite literally. Stays out the way. 2d6, fil, succeed with consequence, succeed stuff with just enough customisation of the characters to keep them interesting. I found myself playing A Very efficient thief. The first thing I did was find kennels for our alien “pet”.
That’s why I picked it. Wouldn’t you? A bit of a bait and switch because the dockyards, its inhabitants etc. Were massively detailEd. I didn’t know it but this was sequel to a scenario I’d played at TravCon using the Traveller Rules where we’d got the parts but failed to get the ship fixed.
I’ve just played Offworlders.
"Your poor sick ship needs some work. The good news is that you have the parts and probably just enough cash to get the dockyard to fit them. The bad news is that one of the crew has some ""history"" here."
that’s the entirety of the game description.

Can you live without magic items?
In a con game yesterday, my PC saw a magic sword. I can’t remember the last time I was ran a game with magic items or one of the my characters touched or used one. Years.
Is that strange?

I never played T&T back in the day. Just read and tried to run Monsters monsters. So I can’t comment. I THINK most of what you want is there. The Referee was at pains to point out that they were. Very egalitarian with races and abilities.

Bless you! BTW
Yes the new one refereed by someone closely associated with it using official starter adventure. As I said I like the new dice mechanic. Less cumbersome than OT&T with a nice fuzziness about exploding dice.
I may have survived to the evening slot but I made the sensible decision to skip it and retire to my hotel early. I was dozing a bit in my afternoon slot. The game still had 4 players and I apologised and explained to the Referee.
A weird church in rainy 1960’s Ireland overlapping with Time slipping WW2 Nazis. Fun fun fun. I went for coffee only to find two-players discussing the game - both strangers to me. One was saying “I really like the way Simon’s playing his character.” Don’t get better than that!
This afternoon I played the Hellboy TTRPG. And has a blast. The 5thEd D&D chassis wasn’t egregious being stripped down and rebuilt nicely.
The scenario was in that beginning vibe of the first film. Historical weirdness investigations with normal people against abnormal threats.
The Great Irwin Allen. Right! AMAZING producer. His series looked great. Lost in Space, Voyage, Time Tunnel. Giants. Serious first series - even Lost in space- descending into slapstick. The first b&w series of voyage was string of b-movies, some excellent. You meant series Not shoes.
…past it. (if they give you a rival party, you don’t need to beat them to the dungeon. Trick them into going first and pick up the pieces….) Fun.
Just played Tunnels and Trolls. Not having played it in my youth I missed some subtleties. I know enough to know the new dice mechanic makes much more sense and I like the fuzziness of the way dice explode.
We played the demo starter set and didn’t get to demo combat cos I roleplayed…
When you compare Voyage to, say, Star Trek - the Voyage scripts were clearly written on a conveyor belt with no-one realky caring if they made total sense.
It’s got windows on the front. For dramatic reasons. Hence the name. Nice picture of the season 2 onwards model with the single deck of windows.
