It's a batfish in the genus Platax. It's a bit confusing since there are multiple completely different groups of fish called "batfish". I stopped short of specifying the species here because I think we have four species of Platax and I can't tell them apart
Literally just this and no other reason. No distinctive characters or unique mythology that distinguishes it from any other demon possession story. Although I admit I'm a bit interested if it's being made by Mike Flanagan.
"The author claims ...The Conjuring 2 ... infringe on his exclusive rights to create derivative works based on the Warrens’ cases." This sentence is very funny, since Conjuring 2 is based on someone else's ghost story that the Warrens claimed involvement of after the fact. It's not even their case
A batfish followed us like a stray dog near the end of one of our dives. I've seen them follow sea turtles.
I showed my partner Forrest Gump for the first time the other night. Since she knows very little about US history, I had to stop and explain the the Watergate scene and what caused a US president to resign. Now there's something 10x more scandalous every other week. What a wreck.
I remember Bush being criticized for implying an invitation to attack his own troops by saying "bring it on!" in Iraq, but this goes way beyond that.
The cockatoo waspfish, so called because cockatoos also strongly resemblance to a piece of dead seagrass according to someone
She sounds like a vampire's familiar who even now still hasn't quite understood that she was never at any point going to be made a vampire
There is something incredibly funny about showing this text exchange as if it's a fond memory. "I didn't invite you to dinner but I swear I would have" <3 <3 <3 This is a level of love only known to the gods and not us mortals
I was also scared of the Abominable Snowman in that movie! I had to be taken out of the theatre from Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla. And some years later, from Event Horizon although that's no movie to bring a kid to. Was having nightmares for months
Not good footage, but this is the closest I've been to a cutlassfish, a denizen of deeper, open waters that is very rare to see close to shore. When idle, they orient vertically, head facing up.
Baby sweetlips fish dance like no one's watching
It's like if they tied a person to the front of a Predator drone in order to absorb enemy fire 😅
The most interesting thing in the thread are people saying they are just there to be the scapegoat for when the AI code breaks. Normally you would think automation means making expendable machines that protect humans from risk, but it's somehow the other way around
One of my favorite nudibranchs, Bornella anguilla, swimming like some sort of psychedelic dragon
I've always been disappointed that you never fight the humans despite playing as the Covenant in Halo 2. Great game otherwise, but come on, they went to the trouble of placing you on the other side but didn't completely follow through.
The movie or the book? I'm trying to decide if I should watch the movie or avoid it until I've read the book at some point in the future
Among the hustle and bustle at the knee-deep water's edge, a seahorse casually pretends to be detritus as it moves away from the stomping feet
According to the article, the other team were also extensively using AI as well, so I wouldn't go so far as to say they stole from from a human, just a smaller team. Apparently the suspicion is that the fact that the smaller team used an OpenAI model allowed OpenAI to leech info from them.
One thing that often takes me out of the moment is when an author describes how good looking a main character is. I think readers generally prefer to assume that anyway, unless something indicates otherwise. So saying so feels redundant and makes me start to suspect wish fulfillment.
