Finally got around to watching Zone of Interest. It's such a discomfiting film. The sheer banality of what's happening in contrast to the sound and iconography results in what might be the most emotionally violent ending I've ever experienced.

A great deal of this is not her fault of course, (the fact that the 2026 adaptation is apparently trying to valourize her mother is L O L), but she's the sort of kid, if you went to school with her, that you would instantly clock as being on the lowest peg in the pecking order. Then she kills you.

Friends and I chatted about this, and one of the things we agreed upon (mean as it may sound) was that Carrie *is* a fundamentally unlikeable character in the context of being in high school. - she's not particularly attractive - she's not particularly smart - she's not socially adroit

Edutainment gets short shrift but stuff like Mavis Teaches Typing, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, and that trivia maze game in the Encarta Encyclopedias really shouldn't be neglected either. You could get a lot of mileage looking over Maxis's entire Sim- output.

The one-two punch (yes, pun intended) of Karate Champ and Street Fighter II, which together pretty much establish and define the entire fighting game genre.

This detail is what's really convincing me it's maybe your best yet. Without a doubt up there.

You could poke into Agalloch but it might not be fast enough. Birdy Nam Nam and Justice are both fun but might not be heavy enough. Also on the "might not be melodic enough" is Chu Ishikawa's scores for the Tetsuo trilogy. Sucks that so many power noise dudes suck ass, might otherwise be perfect.
