Harry Webb was cycling home when he was killed by a driver using nitrous oxide.
His tragic death shows the devastating consequences of people taking drugs & driving.
I hope that the seriousness of this judgement will deter other offenders in the future.
It’s clear as day- our society has left totally unquestioned the idea of putting pedestrians at a disadvantage just to have a car in close reach. This culture has played a part in normalising the dominance of motor vehicles in our neighbourhoods, and prevented sustainable transport expansion.
Not an e-bike
NEW: DEFRA’s 2025 compliance assessment shows Greater London has illegal levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), after being declared compliant in 2024.
According to DEFRA, Bristol and Glasgow are the only other UK zones that exceed the NO2 legal limits. #AirPollution
I talk a lot about major transport investment, but one of the biggest bangs for the buck policy-wise would be a full pavement parking ban and more rigid enforcement of traffic rules. Enforcement is so lax that this stuff is just completely normalised now, and it's unacceptable.

Dr Hilary Jones MBE is the new Living Streeets President.
He says: “We need streets that are safe, accessible and free from fear and exclusion. As Living Streets’ President, I'm committed to supporting the charity in their work to make that happen.”
The government is consulting on a long-awaited update to the safety at street works and road works code of practice which is of 2013 vintage with a closing date of 14th December.
I have responded through one of my professional bodies, but I have broadly said:
The real headline, of course, is that our streets and roads are being filled with monster SUVs, which represent a danger to everyone but particularly the most vulnerable road users (kids, pedestrians, cyclists). But sure let's talk about whether Jaguar's rebranding will work
💔Another day, more #KSIs - this time two fatalities💔
A 32yo woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving/driving w/a specified controlled drug >the prescribed limit.
Classic motornormatvity . Cars are presented as natural and inevitable rather than the result of policy choices and planning.
Benches are important mobility aids - they allow people to take frequent rests, enabling them to walk greater distances, by breaking them down into stages
Reducing road safety to data about victims blinds us from larger systemic causes. This severely limits our thinking about effective solutions.
The only way forward begins with knowing WHO KILLS WHO.
Look for the #CollissionMatrix.
The tragedy to one side, just a reminder that traffic signals are not magical.
... they've hacked £1.6m from the Queenstown Road cycling scheme ... God knows what gets delivered .. presumably more paint?
@wandsworthcycling.bsky.social @wandsworthls.bsky.social Seems Wandsworth's Tories ain't happy with the gyratory plans ...
Lifts need regular maintenance and TLC; if they become non-functional, step-free access is no longer possible.
A lift can be a single point of failure.
Ramps, by contrast, very rarely fail.
Good luck to any children trying to cycle south through this junction.
#VisionZero is just words.
