ZZ and Zsa Zsa the #zonkeys are king and queen of a small herd of wild #donkeys, including Wonkey Donkey, Kizmet, Hemingway, Domino & Gus the Angry Donkey - who is no longer angry. So much physical and mental healing has taken place with space, freedom, friends, and the best care at #Skydog.

Mighty Goliath, a senior band stallion from Salt Wells Creek, has the unique #curly genetics of his #wildhorse herd. He lost his family and freedom in October 2017 after 26 years free on the range. This October, he swaggers toward the sunset on Sheeps Rock, safe with his family at Skydog.

A #mustang rounded up from Utah's Conger Mountains as a #foal, Lightning was confined by an abusive adopter in a filthy 10’x10’ pipe stall that was never cleaned. When he threw his owner off, the man shot him in the head, but he pulled back at the last split second and survived.

3/ Then she had a premature #foal, Fergus, who could not stand or nurse. All her mustang instincts told her to leave him as he would not have survived in the wild. Little does she know the intensive care and therapy he receives to help him walk back into her life when he’s ready.

2/ What she went through - being rounded up blind by #USFS. Then struggling to navigate a terrifying new world in holding with her devoted, tiny daughter as her eyes. They must have felt so scared trying to protect each other, but they stayed strong and made it to #Skydog.

1/ The amazing #wildhorse #mare Majesty - who is blind - runs after her devoted daughter, Precious, tails held high, just for the joy of being mustangs. Like our other blind rescues, she’s mapped out her pen and has other ways of “seeing” the trees, fences, and bins.

Boomer grew up on Virginia Range without learning any #wildhorse social skills. Herd dynamics usually sort these things out, but he acts like he never belonged to one. A true #loner, he doesn’t stop to consider how his behavior affects others. And we love him just the way he is.

2/ Denver warmed up to periodic scratches and cookies, but Leigh (named for Laura Leigh) never did. She wants nothing to do with humans. They were deeply bonded, so we’re keeping an eye on her. So far, she is doing well in the company of a couple other #mares in her herd.

1/ Our beloved #wildhorse Denver passed away from cancer at age 27. She was one of the first four #mustangs we saved in 2016 as a new sanctuary. It was our honor to give her the wild life she wanted with Leigh, a mare she’d spent 15 years with before landing at auction, both very wild.

Slate & Dune were turned out to meet Apollo’s #wildhorse herd. Slate rejected the best efforts to domesticate him. Dune is not a fan of being handled by humans. With Wilson as their guide into #Skydog #wild, their dreams of #freedom have come true.

Getting the story of #BlueZeus out into the world is one of our biggest accomplishments. At the heart of it is the love story between these horses, which has done more to show in a real way the sacred bonds mustangs form and what a crime it is for the BLM to tear them apart.

Tucker, another Sale Authority baby, was funneled to a kill pen by the BLM when he was 2yo. Uninterested in colts his own age, the mischievous little scallywag treats the older #wildhorses as his equals. His patient mentor, Hubbell, has his work cut out for him in schooling his young ward.
