This is one of the best football conversations I’ve ever heard. Two supremely informed people talking about tactics, philosophy, and the nature of the sport

The Spectre of Spurs
I sat down with @jonmackenzie.bsky.social to discuss his book 'The Spectre of Pep' and Tottenham's role within the tactical meta past, present and future.
and that hasn't stopped him from being maybe the best player in the world this year.
Similarly, perhaps, there's an (unfair) narrative about Kane in semis/finals that could be effecting his performances in them truly. What I mean to say is that Harry Kane, as an example, is highly susceptible to taking on both a winning and a losing mentality
When Harry Kane (due to team form, injury etc.) went a couple of Augusts without scoring and there became a narrative about it. That narrative, I believe, significantly impacted his performances in following Augusts.
When Jermain Defoe told Harry Kane that he's more likely to score a goal if he just missed the last one (statistically false) he believed it, it stuck with him and I think it still helps him to this day.
To get better at winning we need more practice
Nakedly: the very second Arsenal won the league there simply did not exist a punishment for Man City (or Chelsea) severe enough to satisfy my bloodlust.
Oh hey I have one for this bsky.app/profile/abbi...
