Every community manager/mod in the world read this story, raised an eyebrow, and realized there was another solution to their bot problem.

the crazy thing about this trend is how badly this exposes that these people have the same attachment and awareness of video games as scalpers do for pokemon

Nic Cage:

He continued: “How do you survive AI? Amazon is a very AI friendly company to the tune of 50 billion dollars invested to OpenAI. I am not an AI friendly actor. I didn’t sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir. It’s kind of like I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again. But that’s OK. So I got to get with these young directors who are Gen Z and they’re going at it their own way, whether it’s through the YouTube culture or whatever it is. They’re doing it from scratch and by hand. I want to get with that.”

And even listening to it now, again, just to make sure the link worked, I'm sniffling and breathing heavy at my desk merely to keep my composure

I'm a very reserved person. If it's not a stress trigger, what I feel usually doesn't reach my face and voice. I foolishly thought I just didn't feel very strongly.

Then my friend gifted me Chicory: A Colorful Tale. And now there's a dedicated "Make Spud Cry" button.

Mm, yeah. The scope and structure of those worlds were a fair bit more manageable (smaller) and smartly distributed, too. I wonder if demand for scope is part of the problem, that if you pitch an RPG worldspace "merely" the size of Dragon Age 1 or Mass Effect 2 you get laughed out of the room.

Except it turns out those math papers were mostly nonsense. Our response to anything these AI companies say about ANYTHING should be “prove it”, particularly if there are people claiming we don’t need entire fields of human study now

I don't know if treating W3 like it was the norm at the time or any time is even remotely fair. Those people put a LOT of work in.

The modded Fallout Tale of Two Wastelands playthrough is coming along nicely, but once again I am forced to remember that the Point Lookout DLC has nothing to offer in its gameplay but contempt and loathing

Imagine coding via pacts with the fey. They frequently lead you astray and curse you with imponderable riddles, but you swear they perform incredible magical feats that make your work easier.

@newbiespud.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 9:00 PM

Debugging code is tough and mysterious enough even at the intersection of the compiler, the programming language, and your own dumbass human hands. I cannot *fathom* leaving that to an automated process with anything less than mythical 100% guaranteed accuracy.

@newbiespud.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:58 PM

The thing I've never gotten about vibe-coding on a personal level is, even supposing it goes well until it doesn't, the moment anything goes wrong, you enter a loop prompting an LLM to solve problems it caused, with no inherent understanding of the code. Congratulations, you are now in purgatory.

@newbiespud.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:39 PM

This new wave of crazy crossover mods gets significantly less impressive once you discover a bunch of them are vibe-coded to hell, which means their stability doesn't last much longer than it takes to record a YouTube video and their likelihood to reach a stable and polished state is next to null

it's awesome how with AI, game modding has gone from impressive technical achievement/commitment to cheap gimmick for views. like oh really someone made a mod that lets you shoot guys in katamari damacy? they made a mod so you can order taco bell in metroid? they put elmo into eternal darkness?

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment.

Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…
