This makes sense.
Yeah, that was an incomplete thought on my part. What I meant was that from my *employers'* standpoint I was not, insofar as they're getting tons of value from me. It really stood out to me that my employer-provided doctor only thought ADHD was a concern if it resulted in less work productivity.

Any advice can be bad advice if you try hard enough.
Jesus.
There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.
I love this.
I'm not knowledgeable about horror, but in my reading I find that overwhelmingly marginalized people are doing most of the best work. And then you see cis-het white dudes so blithely confident that nothing worthwhile is being made by anybody who isn't like them.
Just thinking about this as the state harasses Ilhan Omar over 40 year old paperwork.
Was Christopher Columbus the tech-bro of his time? ⏹️ Passionate about "revolutionizing" an industry with poorly-understood science. ⏹️ Indifferent to lives and suffering of people he considered his inferiors. ⏹️Elevated to a reputation of "greatness" based on fictionalized accomplishments.

I'm curious to know how many full-time artists in my sphere have pursued diagnoses for their neuroatypicality, and whether their diagnoses have led to improvements in their life (beyond validation). (To what extent is neuroatypicality only a "problem" when you're working for the man?)
I feel so old when I complain that technology used to have user friendliness as a core guiding principle!
* It feels significant to note that in this current dystopia, my primary care physician is a doctor at my employer-provided employee health care center. My doctor is literally a fellow employee of my own employer. So maybe that colors whose interests she is looking out for.
I did actually ask my primary care doctor* about doing some kind of ADHD or perhaps autism spectrum screening a couple of years ago, and she asked me if I was struggling at work. And in fact I am not. Over the course of 32 years I have developed excellent masking and coping techniques.
At this stage of my life, it feels like the only real difference between a medical diagnosis and a self-diagnosis is the feeling of legitimacy.
I would love to have a diagnosis so I could have an official reason for Why I Am Like This, but I'm also old and nearing the end of my employed era and so when I tho about making appointments and copayments and stuff, the question always comes back to, "for what?"
My current car is getting up in mileage and literally has a bumper held on by bungee cords, but I'm just not sure I would enjoy any newer car.
On-by-default "features" that attempt to police whether I am doing a good enough job of staying in the lane, whether I am following the car in front of me at an appropriate distance, and a non-permanently-disableable option to literally turn the engine off when I come to a complete stop.
