High pressure still expected to push in over Ireland from Friday with a good settled spell of weather and looking good next weekend but exact position of high will determine how much sunshine we see and how cool the nights will be. Cooler in general from Friday after a milder start to the week.

These long range charts are not particularly reliable but while a lot of talk is about El Niño and risk of warmer and wetter first half of winter in Ireland, we could also possibly see a blocked and much cooler second half of winter.

Cloud forecast with a lot of cloud on Monday but a lot of sunny spells on Tuesday. The main risk of this coming week is Wednesday evening into Thursday before high pressure starts to build on Friday. Milder start to the week but cooler temps from Friday.

The band of rain Wednesday looks likely to stay out West until late evening. Those out on picket lines might escape most of the rain.

A chance of seeing some Northern Lights tonight but cloud will be an issue for many.

Many areas dry this Saturday morning but some well-scattered showers, majority of them in the North and West. Very breezy today and feeling cool. Band of rain will move up from Southwest tonight and extend up the country Sunday morning and afternoon. Heaviest in Southwest.

Sunday will see rain pushing into Southwest and a wet day in Southern areas.

A very mild Friday morning as we get a very brief blast of warmer air but it will turn cooler and also windy today. A damp to wet start with sunny spells extending from the Northwest but also some showers. Saturday will be breezy with sunny spells and only the odd shower.

Reminder that we have a windy Friday ahead and also risk of more windy weather next week with potential for some low pressure systems to develop around the middle of next week.

Heating has come on in many homes as cooler air has arrived and the budget change in carbon tax was due to reduce the price of home heating oil by €21.50 on 500l but www.cheapestoil.ie shows prices have increased today compared to before budget!

Yellow rainfall warning issue for Donegal. We have two bands of rain Thursday. Weather very mixed with no clear sign of what’s to come beyond Sunday. Frustrating for farmers trying to find 2 dry days together for silage with some showers around on the better days.
