Ugh, grim, no
Thank you!
Oh how lovely! V glad you found a way to buy, it's a great record
I'm two episodes in to the new East of Eden, and it's all quite Thomas Hardy isn't it? Everyone trapped by their past and more or less DOOMED, the action clearly only going in one downwards direction. As such, I am very much enjoying it.
That’s my favourite REM song!
Isn't it GREAT. So rare for a supposedly funny book to be actually funny. I loved it.
Jazz on a summer's day is fun, as I remember
Yes it's about him NOT playing, and also features the deaths of various other significant people just to add to the fun
Jazz all happened in black and white and all you could see were smoky close-ups of hands on keyboards, that's just the way it was
I have absolutely no idea who it is for
Anyway don’t feel too sorry for me, I’m going out with girlfriends now. There will be booze.
Extremely brief snippets of music. Mad really.
I’ll kiss you when you admit Bill Evans is good
I don’t like that film either and this one shares that cliched vibe, romanticising the bad stuff
Especially depressing if you just leave out all the music 🙄
It’s a bit in thrall to jazz film cliche romanticising of the black and white bleakness. At the end a paragraph tells you how many great records he made but god forbid we should witness any of that greatness. Let’s get back to the lovely heroin. His parents are the best bit.
Bound to haha
I feel your good wishes contain jazz-hate Ian, but I accept them anyway
For my birthday treat Ben and I took ourselves off to see the new film Everybody Digs Bill Evans, about a musician we both adore. Well, that it is NOT an uplifting birthday-type film, even if, or perhaps ESPECIALLY if, you are a fan of Bill Evans. I came out honestly wondering why on earth
Oh I love that! Aubade and Blackstar!
