When will I learn. When will I learn!

Yeah now it’s Claude that’s the good programmer that knows Bash by heart.

@jacob.goldOct 8, 2026, 9:35 PM

Why is Claude Code so good? Because it can run Bash like a superhuman programmer.

This new small codebase isn't large and modular enough to make running many coding agents in parallel very effective. Really feels so slow and boring not to have 10+ agents to switch between. How am I supposed to get into the zone?

@jacob.goldOct 8, 2026, 6:17 PM

I wrote Perl for years but not since 2010 or so. It’s as good as Python and Ruby but Go is so much easier to maintain and deploy and build high performance systems with.

@jacob.goldOct 8, 2026, 5:41 AM

Yeah, moving from one language to another is a great option in many cases.

@jacob.goldOct 8, 2026, 5:21 AM

First write it in Go to ship a high quality version quickly. Then rewrite in Rust so people know you're still cool.

@jacob.goldOct 8, 2026, 4:51 AM

Not true of course, but I'm not thinking about trends here. Just my own views on which languages are the most productive choices.

Over the last 2.4 years, coding agents have aged this post like fine wine.

Cloud software remains undefeated. You can probe the API and behavior of a cloud service but that's not nearly enough to reverse engineer in most cases.

What works for me is blending: - 1 cup cold water - 1 banana (or handful of fresh / frozen fruit) - 2-3 scoops of 25g whey protein isolate (unflavored) - 2-3 servings of fiber (hydrolyzed guar gum like OptiFiber) Takes <2 minutes to blend and drink, so very easy to do every day.

Dodging nose-breaking headbutts (and water bottles) is at least 10% of the job.

@jacob.goldOct 7, 2026, 3:33 PM

"I'll just write this part of the code myself, I'm a big boy!" as I launch vim for only second time this week.

@jacob.goldOct 7, 2026, 2:16 PM

Yeah, that was me for a long time. Adding +75g per day with unflavored whey protein isolate is an easy solution.

@jacob.goldOct 7, 2026, 2:12 PM

Yes, or even worse, they insist there is no tradeoff to be made.

@jacob.goldOct 7, 2026, 1:25 AM

Yeah, survival is different. But most (American) people are trying to add lean muscle and lose weight. And even 100g per day will require more than beans due to the excess calories.

@jacob.goldOct 6, 2026, 10:56 PM

Whenever ICANN decides they want to print more money.

@jacob.goldOct 6, 2026, 8:58 PM

I love beans but $20/year is way off unless you're just talking about survival. As a 200 lbs man, you'd need ~4 lbs of cooked pinto beans per day to get ~150g of protein, which would include an unhealthy amount of calories from carbs. Beans should be no more than maybe ~35% of your daily protein.

Ignoring that it's DHH, this is really just a typical example of how many developers are generating code now. Sometimes it's totally fine and other times its kinda scary. Always a huge advantage for the rest of us who continue to maintain a strong understanding and control over our generated code.

but ndjson is okay right?
