We are calling on the hosts of Saturday's march in Telford to remove Mason from the speakers list. It would be hypocritical to platform a convicted domestic abuser while claiming to honour victims.

Far right groups claim to care about public safety, particularly that of women and girls. Simultaneously they welcome members like Mason who have been charged with extreme violence against women.

Mason is also a member of the British Security Project, an anti-migrant vigilante team which provides "security personnel", predominantly for far right protests. He is yet another example of an anti-migrant activist claiming that immigrants pose a threat towards women. But he is a threat.

Despite the group's claim to stand against discrimination and racism, Mason attended Britain First's Manchester "March for Remigration" in February earlier this year. Britain First is an openly ethnonationalist group.

Ironically, Mason now runs Northwest Community Safeguarding, a volunteer community team that says it aims to "promote safety, provide community support, and help keep local places safe and welcoming for everyone".

In 2013 Mason was sentenced to four years in prison for domestic violence, admitting to seven counts of actual bodily harm. He put his then-partner through what was described a "week of hell", including threatening to pour acid over her face so that “no one else would ever want to get with her”.

Here in Britain, antisemitism and anti-Muslim hatred have risen sharply. We stand with Jewish and Muslim communities in their grief, and against all who seek to divide them.

Three years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific terror attack in Israel. We remember all those killed and taken hostage, and the tens of thousands of Palestinians killed in Gaza since.

Ninety years ago today, Oswald Mosley tried to march his Blackshirts through the Jewish East End. 🧵 He had thousands of uniformed fascists behind him and 6,000 police clearing the way. But the people of the East End got there first.

We go after the people who profit from dividing communities, and we aim to build communities strong enough to shut them out.

It's what HOPE not hate does every day. Our researchers track emerging groups and expose the people behind them. Our organisers work with communities across the country, bringing people together to build something stronger than the division the far right wants to create.

They took apart the lie that Jews and immigrants were to blame for poverty and bad housing. In streets once written off as Mosley territory, people tore up their BUF membership cards.

So antifascists kept organising. They went street by street. They organised tenants, fought slum landlords with rent strikes and stopped families being evicted, including families who had backed Mosley.

A week later, gangs of fascist youths ran down Mile End Road smashing the windows of Jewish shops and the British Union of Fascists actually gained recruits in the weeks afterwards.

The story of Cable Street is an important one. But the fascists did not stop organising, and one confrontation did not finish the job.

The masks and matching black serve the same purpose as Mosley's uniforms: to look like an army and make a community feel outnumbered.

Today they plan to turn up in black uniforms and balaclavas to disrupt a Stand Up To Racism and Trades Union Congress (TUC) anti-racist demonstration in Birmingham. We uncovered the plans in advance and alerted organisers and police.
